In the First Division Gilesgate Moor Hotel were 4-1 winners at Burnside Wmc , Washington Arms lost 3-0 at Chester Osborne Wmc, Houghton Mill All Stars won 2-1 at The Biddick and Ushaw Moor Cricket Club Crashed to a 3-0 defeat at Houghton Comrades.
In the Third Division Chester Plough Inn made the short trip to Washington Lambton Village for their first meet of the season. The Plough were without the influential McGuiness and Seymour but welcomed back Curl, Simm, Wilcock and Baddams into the squad. The Plough got off to the best possible start when they opened the scoring after 40 seconds. The ball was won by Nathan Baddams in midfield who then played the ball into the opposing penalty area where the Lambton Village defender managed to poke the ball high and over his keepers head whilst under pressure from Chris Cuthbertson. Washington Lambton had a chance to equalise five minutes later when a long clearance sent the home striker clear but Curl managed to get back and make a last ditched tackle and put the ball out for a corner. The Plough then pressed the home side back deep into their half trying to play football on a difficult pitch and created a number of good chances. The first fell to Chris Cuthbertson after a cross came in from the left and with the whole goal gaping managed to head high over the bar. Joel Baddams had a great chance moments later when he timed his run to perfection and raced clear on goal but at the last minute it bobbled up and he shot wide. Chris Cuthbertson should have scored again when he got on the end of a Lloyd shot but failed to hit the target. Daniel Hill thought he had scored minutes later, only to see the Washington keeper pull off a fantastic one handed save. The Plough did manage to double their lead and it came from an unlikely source. Ben Lloyd broke down the left flank and his cross fell to the feet Mark Atchison whose volley forced a fine save out of the Washington keeper but the ball fell kindly to the feet of CHRIS HOWEY who fired in from close range. The goal seemed to spur the home side on as they pressed The Plough back in search of a goal and were looking very dangerous from set pieces as the away side conceded a lot of needless free kicks. Washington did manage to pull a goal back on the stroke of half time. A corner was from the left was met by the tall number four who powered his header high into the roof of the net. H/T 1-2
The home side got the second half under way and went in search of an equaliser. The long ball up front for the tall centre forward seemed to be the only outlay but The Plough defenders were coping admirably with the Arial pressure. The away side continued to create a number of chances as both Baddams and Hill went close. The Plough continued to surge forward in search of the killer goal when Rose linked up well with Atchison as the defender burst into the area only to see his shot agonisingly shade the far post and away to safety. Joel Baddams linked up superbly with Hill when he supplied a cheeky back heel into the path of Hill who shot was saved well by the keeper from close range. The match winning goal eventually came in the last minute when David Wilcock laid the ball off to DANIEL HILL who worked an opening before firing low into the corner of the net. F/T 1-3. Durham Bede Lodge Lost 4-1 at Waterhouses Fc
In the Third Division East Rainton Fc lost 1-0 at Houghton Chilton Lodge.Witton Gilbert WMC entertained Framwellgate Moor Wmc; this was a much better performance from Witton Gilbert Wmc
They started quite brightly and lost Scott Bradley to injury after only 10 minutes Paul Finnegan replaced Bradley and although at first he found the going tough he grew into the game and did his bit.
The scoring for Witton was opened by the ever willing Sam Renwick who was magnificent throughout just on the half hour. Straight after that goal Renwick had another good chance but his 1st touch deserted him for about the only time in the game and the chance went begging when the Framwellgate Moor Wmc keeper smothered the ball. The 2 nd half was nip and tuck for a while as Witton Looked for the 2nd goal their defence never really looked in trouble. The lead was stretched after 60 minutes when Renwick added his second of the Game with a neat finish. Framwellgate Moor scored straight after this when a cross held up in the wind deceiving Witton Keeper Smith and the defence and was converted off the crossbar. Framwellgate added more pressure and equalized 2 minutes later when the Witton Defence didn’t deal with a ball held up in the wind and James Smith converted.
Witton knuckled down and took control again and pressed the Framwellgate Moor defence time and again with their keeper pulling off several good saves, the break through came after 75 minutes when great work down the right flank from Renwick produced a cross which Callcutt finished off at the far post. To Give Witton a 3-2 win.
In the Fourth Division Dubmire Wmc were 4-0 Winners at Washington Honest Boy. Durham Garden House beat visitors Langley Park Rams Head 3-0. In a blustery encounter away at Kelloe Davy Lamp, the Framwellgate Moor Salutation soaked up a lot of early pressure and could have been easily 2 down at the break. However they did create a few chances on the counter and looked sure to go one up, before the referee correctly called the striker back for offside. At half time a change for the salutation and a totally new team came out, pressing the ball and playing neat passing football on a very windy evening. On the hour 2 more salutation substitutes where made and the momentum shifted towards the salutation who always looked like going on to win. When a Kelloe defender turned the ball in to his own net from a hopeful salutation cross, the salutation pressure came and resulted in a host of chances. The game was sealed by a hopeful, we shall say cross. That caught the wind, which took it over the stranded goal keeper for 2 - 0. A good win for the salutation, in cold and difficult conditions.
