A fine finish with the head from 18 yards out. 6 Mins Later, Some good work from Paul Freeman led to a goalmouth scramble. In the First Division Chester Osborne beat visitors Ushaw Moor Cricket Club 5-2
In the Second Division Chester Plough Inn were at home once more entertaining Waterhouses FC looking to overturn a previous league defeat in Esh Winning.
The Riversides lost Craig Johnson to injury but welcomed back midfield maestro James Seymour back into the side. The home side could also boast a very strong bench this evening. The Plough got the game underway and immediately had Waterhouses on the back foot when Mark Atchison burst down the left flank and into the box but could only drag his shot wide of the upright. This was to prove the key to the first half. The home side didn’t have long to wait to break the deadlock and it was that man Mark Atchison who controlled the ball on his chest and finished with a fine strike from close range, following a great cross from Chris Cuthbertson. The home side were very much on the rampage in the early stages and they doubled their lead with just over ten minutes on the clock. The ball was played out wide for Mark Atchison who beat two men before playing a quick one-two with Daniel Hill and then hitting a sweet shot high into the net with the outside of his foot.
The goal didn’t have the effect The Plough had hoped for as the Esh side scored with virtually their first attack. The ball was only half cleared to the edge of the area and the Waterhouses swivelled before hitting a fine half volley into the roof of the net.
The goal gave the away side a huge confidence boost as they now started to enjoy a spell of pressure as they forced a number of corners which the home defence coped with admirably. With the away side enjoying more of the pressure The Plough broke away to extend their lead further. Daniel Hill picked the ball up within his own half and supplied an inch perfect pass for Mark Atchison to go racing clear on goal and he made no mistake by finishing low into the corner of the net to complete a first half hat trick. The goal put a smile back on the players faces and the grin got wider a few minutes later when Joel Baddams supplied a corner from the left which Andrew McGuinness flicked on and Chris Dodd’s who helped the ball over the line for an own goal. H/T 1-4 The away side kicked off the second period and found themselves retreating deeper in their own half right from the off. The Riversiders didn’t have long to wait before they extended their lead and it was a superb goal. Some good work from Mark Atchison again down the left flank earned him some space to square for Daniel Hill who pulled off an exquisite bit of skill by flicking the ball over the keepers head from 15 yards out. The home side though they were putting the game to bed but Waterhouses had different ideas as they came back into the game again. Stuart Lambert was forced into a fine save low to his right to keep the scoreline intact but it didn’t take long for the away side to reduce the score line following a goalmouth scramble. The goal which the home side conceded sprung the sides forwards back into action as they went straight back up the field and scored again. Chris Cuthbertson played the ball up to Daniel Hill on the half way line who picked the ball up and raced towards the opposing penalty area before looking up and executing a brilliant chip from outside the area into the roof of the net. The away keeper was certainly the busier of the two as he pulled of a number of fine saves to keep the scoreline down. Less than five minutes a brilliant team move involving Joel Baddams and Hill had the away defence at sixes and sevens before Hill crossed for Andrew McGuinness but the Waterhouses keeper pulled off a great save again from close range. Waterhouses did reduce the deficit once more in the last minute when a free header from close range allowed the away midfielder to complete his hat trick. There was still time for another goal for the home side. Marc Howey took a quick throw in from just inside the opposing half which sailed straight over the last defenders head for Daniel Hill to go clear on goal and he made no mistake finishing low into the corner of the net to complete his hat trick. F/T 7-3. Coxhoe Wmc Beat Visitors Durham Bede Lodge 3-0, Sherburn Lambton Arms and Visitors Washington Victoria shared the Points in a 1-1 Draw.
