Durham County Football Association Sunday Cup
Semi-Final
Kelloe
wmc 2
v 0 sunderland Farringdon Social
It was the visitors who started the strongest putting kelloe under pressure from the off with neat play, but after a shaky first 10 minutes kelloe woke up and started to play their football. Charlton went close but he farringdon keeper denied him with a good save. The visiting keeper couldn't do nothing when megran broke from midfield and finished well to put kelloe 1-0 up. This spurred kelloe on and went close again through Barton and Johnson but couldn't beat the in form visiting keeper. The 2nd half started with both teams playing good football, but farringdons game plan was hit in a crazy 10 minutes when 2 of their side were dismissed, 1 for retaliation and the 2nd for a last man foul. From then on kelloe dominated possession but couldn't break down a resolute farringdon rearguard. It wasn't until the 85th minute kelloe found the net again, Barton converting a penalty after Gibson was fouled. Kelloe ran out 2-0 winners to book a place in the final where they will play plains farm.

Cuthberts made it through to the first cup final in their history with a battling display against 4th division outfit Kelloe Davey Lamp. Bailes opened the scoring for cuthberts but kelloe were quickly back on level terms. A cagey affair, the match stayed 1-1 for quite a while, before Cuthberts substitutes changed the game. They ran out 5-2 winners, with 3 of the other 4 goals coming courtesy of sub Clarkson (2) and Lee Hutchinson with his 1st for the club. MOM Fryer got the other goal.

Aycliffe Wmc 2 v 4 Hetton Lyons Cricket Club
Never say die from the Lyons with coming back from
two goals down. Aycliffe took the lead
in the 28th second of the game , a ball down the right hand side
and the Lyons defence hadn’t manage to
get close to getting a tackle in and next thing the ball was in the net 1-0.
Hetton had the majority of the play in the first half but didn’t create
enough chances although just before half time Matty weirs had a glorious
chance to score but his shot went wide of the goal and right on the stroke of
half time a defensive error let in the Aycliffe striker and his shot gave
stand in goalkeeper Elliott Woods no chance 2-0.Second half and the Lyons
pushing forward desperate for a goal and in the 60th minute
substitute Chris Bell got through
on the left hand side and slotted the ball between the goalkeepers legs 2-1.
The Lyons playing the better football and in the 75th minute
Watson beat the defender down the left flank his cross to Byrne and he laid
the ball to Nicky Kane to slot the
ball home 2-2. Minutes later Warren Byrne shrugged off his defender and the
advancing goalkeeper and knocked the ball across the six yard box for Luke Gilhespy to score 2-3. Warren Byrne got his deserved goal
from the penalty spot with seven minutes to go, Bell was fouled in the box
and from the penalty spot Byrne calmly stroked the ball to the right hand
side as the goalkeeper dived the opposite way2-4. Newton Aycliffe had a
chance to pull a goal back in the 9Oth minute, hand ball from a Lyons
defender in the penalty area and Elliott Woods in goal for the Lyons dived to
his left hand side and saved it. Aycliffe scored in
the first and last minute of the first half through Wright and Cooper,to give
them a deserved
2-0 lead at the interval. Hetton poured on the pressure after the break and after getting back into the game thorough a dubious offside goal, ran out 4-2 winners with goals from Bell, Kane,Gilhesby and a Warren Byrne penalty.
Pelton
raob 0 V 0 Washington JFC
Wjfc travelled the short distance to Pelton raob in this latest premiership lgue fixture, the game was competitive from start to finish with both teams playing some good football, Pelton had most of the possession in the first half but without troubling the wjfc keeper Smith unduly. The second half saw wjfc come into the game a lot more and possession was nearer 50/50 but once again neither keeper had a lot to do and the game ran out a fair drawn game 0-0 being the final result.
First Division
sacriston
cccfc 2 v0 sacriston wmc
A great advert for a local derby. The cricket club were a better team all game but struggled to find the net. Sacriston wmc defended well but Anthony Ward scored the first before half time with a long punt from Hall. Second half Liam Summers hit the upright of the Cricket Clubs goal then Yates scored from another long kick from Hall. Great match to play in and watch.Cricket Club 2 WMC 0. The first half was a even with the home side hitting from the bar from a free kick from 20 yards out and then another shot was well saved by Potts from the same distance with both efforts from Graham Embleton. The WMC nearly scored when the CC goalkeeper dropped the ball and fell to Sanderson who went to shoot from 6 yards out and was fouled and no penelty was given. The second half saw the CC control the game and scored with 20 minutes to go when the goalkeeper came for a cross which he claimed and then the ball was knocked out of his hands and the CC forward Ward chipped the ball over him and into the net. With 2 minutes left Yates broke clear, knocked it past the defense and fired a low well drilled shot into the back of the net.
washington
cross keys 2 V 2 east rainton
good positive start from keys which ended up in a goal from ross docerty because of early pressure and keys again should of finished the game off with the chance in the 90. the game then balanced itself out with a 2-2 score line at the final whistle. Hard fought game between Washington cross keys and East Rainton fc ended in 2-2 draw. Washington dominated the 1st half and went in 1-0 up at the interval. East Rainton hit back with sub Spence scoring with a header. 2nd half was a more even game with washington taking the lead again with a cool header. Rainton levelled again when Spence found the net with his 2nd of the game. Cross keys were denied a last minute winner when Dean Caris pulled off a wonder save to deny them at the death.
Second Division
Sedgefield
Social Club 2 V 3 Houghton Chilton Lodge
Sedgefield led 1.0 at half time and both teams were fairly evenly matched. In the second half Houghton started to create chances and when Sedgefield had a penalty decision turned down, Houghton quickly broke away and equalised. Houghton forward line looked the more threatening and soon added two further goals to lead 3.1. Sedgefield continued to press and scored from a freekick just outside the box to make it 3.2 to Houghton. Which is how the game ended. Houghton Chilton Lodge suffered a first half hangover against Sedgefield Social as all the squad had been out the night before celebrating John Fox 30th birthday. The Chilton Lodge never had a shot on target & their passing was wayward on a bobbly pitch. Sedgefield Social went in 1-0 up thanks to a finish one on one with the goalkeeper. 2nd half saw a much improved Chilton Lodge performance and they were shortly on level terms when a through ball from Craig Magic Johnson saw young Iain Super Mac race clear to smash the ball into the far corner from an angle. Chilton Lodge then went 2-1 up when young Iain Mac turned provider with a ball into the 6 yard box for Perri Agnew to score at the second attempt. A third goal was added by David "Stomach like a washing machine" Firth, when Pompey Tim Murray put a ball over the top for Firth to lob the ball over the Kepper into an empty net. Sedgefield Social pulled one back late on when the referee awarded a very dubious freekick just outside the box, a tame strike from the freekick was then sliced into his own net by Martin Armstrong however the Chilton Lodge came away with the important 3 points. FT 2-3.
Bowburn
fc 2 v 9 Ushaw Moor
Bowburn with a large number of players missing were always going to struggle David Robinson played in goal despite carrying a injury and Ushaw Moor just pressed at the young Bowburn team tried to hold out 2 more injuries at half time but the result was never in doubt two very good gols from Andrew Dunn for Bowburn only beig the highlight of the game for them

Sherburn
Lambton arms 3 v 0 Chester Hilda park
A pretty one sided game, All the chances came from Sherburn. Chester did battle hard but they didn't look to score at any point. Sherburn did score half way through the first half from a corner. Chester keep Sherburn at bay most of the way through, a sub came on Neil Haswell to add some fresh legs to the Sherburn team. Putting more pressure on the Chester defence the ball came clear to an unmarked Haswell just inside the box and a clinical finish put the game out of reach of Chester. The 3rd goal came from a battle between Gary Dodds and two defenders in which Gary came for the better
new
Brancepeth fc 3 v 3 Pelaw Grange dogs FC
This was a topsy turvy game with New Brancepeth going ahead after 5 minutes and then Chris Harvey pulling one back for Pelaw Grange Dogs Fc . Then in the second half Pelaw Grange Dogs went 3-1 with a great volley from David Jeffers and then Chris Harvey following in on a parried shot to make it 1-3 to Pelaw. In injury time of nearly 10 minutes New Brancepeth threw everything at Pelaw Grange Dogs and ended up scoring twice as Pelaw stopped playing their football and sat back waiting for the whistle to go. This was two points dropped by Pelaw which should of been a comfortable win at 3 - 1 up and they had at least 3 other chances that they should of scored from.

In a fairly even second half ferryhill scored one to make it 5-2 and thats how it finished , Jays 5 ferryhill dynamos 2 .
A very lack lustre display from ferryhill
who found themselves 4-0 down with in 20 minutes they pulled one back when
Jonathon Mason headed in from a deep cross only for the jays to score again
making it 5-1 at half time. Ferryhill came out after the break slightly
better and managed to score a consolation goal when Dan Taylor fire home a
goal mouth scramble. Final score 5-2

Shincliffe Avenue 1 v 3 Washington New Tavern
New Tavern got off to a good start going 2-0 after around 20 minutes through a penalty and a good finish whilst capitalising on some slack defending by the Avenue. High Shincliffe eventually started to find their game to get back into the tie. Unfortunately for them, a long ball caught out 'keeper Luke Ridley leaving the Washington striker with a simple finish. 3-0. Avenue began to press and pulled one back through a fine hit from Gary Browne from around 25 yards, moments later, Joe Barber had a decent goal unfairly ruled offside. Avenue had a better second half and pressed looking for a second goal. New Tavern defended well with a few extra chances of their own. Evenly contested second half and a decent game of football.
Chester
Relton Terrace 1 v 0 Pity Me Lambton
Hounds
A well battled and even contest after the home side had won the reverse fixture 5-0 earlier in the season. Both teams had chances throughout the game on a very uneven pitch. Home side taking the lead midway through the 1st half with a well worked goal and a shot in off the post. This came shortly after a tremedous goal line clearsnce from Pity Me's William clydesdale, with the away keeper nowhere to be seen and a goal looking very likely. The away sides heads did not drop, with the front 2 for pity me causing reltons defence a few problems with their trickery and industrty.the secone half was pretty much the same, although most of the home sides attacks and chances came on the counter attack. This was a result of pity me pretty much camped in reltons half, with the home side themselves making a couple off crucial goal saving blocks when the goal looked certain. All in all a good game with a point probably the fair result, but relton managed to hold on for the win.
Waldridge
Park FC 2 v 6
Lumley FC
Waldridge Park FC entertained Lumley FC at the Riverside and came away on the end of a 6-2 defeat. Waldridge took the lead when Chris Davison followed up on a mistake by the Lumley keeper who failed to hold onto a free kick. Lumley levelled soon after with a good counter attack. Two quick goals by the away side one a header from a corner which hit the crossbar and came down and the referee deemed over the line followed by a suspiciously offside goal which again the referee allowed. After the break Lumley increased there lead with another quick break. Waldridge pulled a goal back when Andy Armstrong was felled n the box and Niki Robson put the penalty away. Lumley went onto finish off a deserved win with two further goals. Lumley made the short trip to the riverside complex to face Waldridge. The home team took the lead, but Laidler scored immediately to equalise for Lumley. Richard Kay headed home from a corner to give Lumley a 2-1 lead. Laidler added to give Lumley a 3-1 half time advantage. In the second half Laidler completed his hatrick, before Warwick & Melvin scored. Waldridge netted a consolation from the spot from Niki Robson. Lumley enjoyed a 6-4 win over Waldridge.
Durham
County Seniors 2 FC v 3 Pittington FC
The visitors stormed to a deserved two-nil lead at the interval, the first a fine curling free-kick from 20yards which went in off the far post, Durham created few chances but were much brighter after half-time, Mark Hughes pulled a goal back early with a powerful drive after a fine cross by Brian Gillespie from the right, Hughes then went down in the box, up stepped Scott Arnott who made no mistake to draw level from the penalty spot, Durham then had an opportunity to take the lead but Adam Birks rising strike produced a magnificiant save, with Durham on the up and pushing forward, Pittington grabed a later winner with a simple finish from close range.
pittington started the stronger and were
2 -0 at halftime, the second half was different story as dcs came out gun ho
and went for it, they got it back to 2 - 2 but a bit of magic from martin
clough 5 mins from time give pittington the victory
quarrington
hill wmc 2 v 5 washington honest boy
fc
A well contested game but again Q hill suffered through mistakes at both ends. Washington took the lead from the penalty spot, then made it 0-2 soon after. Luke Jury made it 1-2 before half time. second half Q hill missed a number of good chances and were made to pay as Washington took their chances to finish the game 2-5.the honest boy came out winners today in a game which could of easily ended up with over 10 goals, with both teams missing guilt edge chances and maybe if it wasn't for both keepers having great games it would have been. |
