In the Third Division Pelaw Grange Dogs FC were away to Bishop Middleton Cross Keys who had a full strength team out for a change. Pelaw however were forced to make changes again with players injured or away. Bishop looked the better team and Pelaw allowed them to be the better team surrendering the midfield and eventually went one down before half time with a ball hot from the edge of the penalty box and bounced before going into the net. Wayne Laws also made a great save from a shot that would of crept into the bottom right hand corner. Gareth Playle was bossing the game for Bishop and John Anderson was winning everything in the air when the ball was played forward to Pelaws Andy Tippins and Ant Nicholson. After the break John Anderson got a second for Bishop and then a mix up between Pelaws keeper and defender saw a third go in from a corner. Pelaw changed there shape to a 4 2 and looked far better with David Donnelly playing behind the front two and they could of pulled at least one back. Pelaws keeper Wayne Laws went off injured and centre back Craig Baine took over in goal and manager Paul Swinburne came on before the end of the game. Bishop also changed their keeper at half time.Shadforth Plough Inn were 4-2 winners at Chester Easy Street. Witton Gilbert Wmc entertained Pittington Fc A hat trick from David Callcutt and 1 each from substitute Grant Boyd and the ever impressive Sam Renwick were the goal contributors but every player did his bit.1 up at half time from a Callcutt penalty there was little evidence really hat Witton would dominate so much in the 2nd half, but they did so with Sam Renwick proving a constant thorn in the side for Pittington defenders with his unselfish running off the ball. Nerves were jangling a bit until the 2nd goal came 15 minutes into the half again from Callcutt who turned neatly in the box to side foot home. Renwick then finished off a goalmouth scramble before Callcutt completed hi hat trick when put in by Boyd who then scored himself with a neat drive from 15 yards.Final score 5-0 to Witton.
In the League Fourth Division   Chester Cricket Club drew 1-1 with Framwellgate Moor Salutation.  A Jonathan Haggerty goal for the home side was cancelled out with a great strike from the Salutation forward.  The Salutation missed a second half penalty which would've earned them a victory. JD TAXIS GUARDS CUP FINAL FRIDAY 25/3/2011 NEW FERENS PARK DURHAM

Peter Playle reports On the First Cup Final Of the Season
WASHINGTON VICTORIA 2 v 5 LANGLEY PARK STEELERS
A large crowd at Durham’s New Ferens Park were well entertained in the Swinburn Maddison Durham Sunday Leagues first final of the season. The Steelers get off to a great start, a Liam Burn long range effort completely deceives Washington’s keeper Lee Wheatcroft who fails to hold onto the ball, man of the match Adam Malekpour is on it in a flash to open the scoring on the four minute mark. The next thirty five minutes are dominated by the Vic. who pull a goal back after fifteen minutes, Mark Liddle sets up Paul Kindon to hammer home a fine effort from the edge of the box. Two minutes later in the lively Paul Kindon is unlucky to see his fierce shot rebound off the woodwork. Washington’s dominance is rewarded with a fortunate goal on the forty minute mark; Mark Liddle’s corner is sliced into his own goal by Michael Nichol. On the stroke of half time a speculative long range Craig Tompson effort somehow slips through the Vic’s keepers legs to bring the scores level for the half time break. The Steelers come out strongly from the restart forcing a succession of corners one of which is brilliantly finished off with a glancing Adam Malekpour header. As the half progresses Steelers grow in stature but it is another disastrous error by keeper Wheatcroft that lets in Jamie Clifford to extend their lead to 4-2. As the game heads towards the final whistle Liam Burn puts the result beyond doubt with a well executed chip over the keeper to make the final score 5-2.

In front of a Very Large Crowd The first 20 minutes was an even game both teams having a couple of half chances. Then the game changed when Kelloe striker Gavin Barton was sent off for foul on Lyons Player Callum Griffiths, Hetton then started to have much of the ball without creating too many clear cut chances. Using both flanks well but no end product in front of goal, 0-0 at half time. Early in the second Half 10 man Kelloe Wmc opened the scoring when Chris Smith delivered a corner for Ian Ward to flick on before Alex Wilson headed home. 10 minutes later Kelloe went 2 nil up when Chris Smith again delivered a long ball for man of the match Ian Ward to finish. Hetton then pushed forward and had the majority of possession and missed several shooting chances before Warren Byrne fired over from inside the box. Kelloe defended well and held on to the 2 nil lead. Brandon Bay Horse Traveled to the Much Fancied Barley Mow Wmc from the Gateshead Sunday League in the Other Semi final, on a small pitch, chances was few and far between, again a big crowd. Barley Mow having the best of the possession in the First Half the Brandon Keeper only having to make one save from Barley Mows Jamie Howe’s, long range effort .Gavin Mudd for Bay Horse was outstanding in midfield. The Only Goal of the game scored By Brandon forward Michael Fort.In the Bishop Auckland Heart Foundation Cup Quarter Final Newton Aycliffe Wmc entertained Wear Valley side Witton Park Rose and Crown. A John Owen Goal was not enough for the Aycliffe as they crashed out 3-1, Moffat, Jardine and a Penalty for Thompson for the Rose and Crown

In the Leagues Premier Division Chester Hilda Park entertained Langley Park wmc it was huge game in terms of premier league survival, the game started with Langley starting the better and duly got noses in front with their first real attempt on goal. Hilda Park did however have chances and in this league it has become apparent that taking chances is vital, and Langley got their second, this seemed to be Hilda Parks Wake up call and for the last 20mins of the 1st half They came into the game a lot more, and good midfield running from Ross Watson, following a superb cross from Steven Wood saw him convert at the near post just before half time. Half Time – Hilda Park 1 Langley Park Wmc 2.The second half started in the same vain as the first ended with Hilda Park on the front foot but unable to find the equalizer Possibly against the run of play Langley restored their advantage when Langley’s no.10 got his second of the game. After this, despite Hilda Parks’s efforts they couldn’t force their way back into the game and Langley came away with the 3points.Full Time – Hilda Park 1 Langley Park Wmc 3. Pelton Roab Traveled to Ferryhill Wmc and Goals from,Carl Ritchie 3 Luke Kerry 2 , Anthony Davison ,Michael Graver gave them a very impressive 7-2 win
In the Leagues First Division Houghton Comrades ended Steelers FC's lengthy winning run with a superb display. In a high tempo game that was officiated by Mr C Piggott, the visitors took the lead very early on. Craig Thompson then produced a little bit of class for the home side to level the score mid way through the first half. This was not enough to keep the Comrades at bay as they went 2-1 up before the break with a direct goal from a set piece. As much as Steelers tried to get back into the game the visiting side were equal in not conceding any quarter. A fabulous match was sealed when Houghton scored a thunderous goal from 35 yards that was in as soon as it left the lads boot and victory ensured that they remained top of division one.Gilesgate Moor Lost 3-2 at Sedgefield Black Lion, Burnside won 4-0 at Ushaw Moor Cricket Club.

In the Second Division Sedgefield Net Park travelled to Pelton Fc After an even start to the match Sedgefield opened the scoring through Martin Lower with a towering header from a corner - half time 1-0 to Netpark.Pelton started the second half the stronger and were rewarded with a goal from a 20 yard strike over the 'keeper. Pelton were soon reduced to ten men after their centre midfielder was dismissed for verbally abusing the referee. Despite the numerical advantage Sedgefield were unable to find another goal and Pelton took a 2-1 lead through a header from a free kick. Sedgefield piled on the pressure in the closing stages, but to no avail, with Pelton catching them on the break to add a third with an opulent chip in the closing minutes. Durham Bede Lodge lost 3-2 at West Rainton Fc.Sherburn Lambton Arms lost 2-1 at Washington Victoria.Coxhoe wmc were 3-0 Home winners over Washington Lambton Village.

In the Third Division It took visitors Pelaw Grange Dogs 36 minutes to score against Bowburn Cooperage but when they passed it around they fully deserved to go in at half time 1 nil up. Craig Bain made way for Scott Patterson ten minutes into the second half and had hardly touched the ball when a penalty was given against him to make it 1-1. This revived Bowburn but with ten minutes to go Paul Hargreaves for Pelaw Grange Dogs broke into the box to be brought down but as the ball broke to substitute Neil Worley the referee waived play on but Neil was blocked and the referee blew for a penalty that Neil rolled just inside the post. Neil had replaced Anthony Nicholson who had worked hard. No one saw what was to come as balls were put behind Bowburn defense as first Neil got a second and then a fine ball by Scott Patterson split the defense again for Andrew Tippins to get a second. Chris Gosling then supplied David Donnelly to put into an open goal to make it 1 5 to Pelaw grange Dogs fc.Shadforth Plough Inn won 4-0 at Bishop Middleham Cross Keys. HT 1-0.The second half was close again for the first 15 minutes until Dan Beaney and Andrew Ross put Q Hill 3-0. Cogdon Makes History

By Ground hopper

In the 6th Round of the League Cup Sponsored by Spennymoor Town Fc, Hetton Lyons Cricket Club entertained Dubmire Wmc from the Leagues Fourth Division. .Gavin Cogdon made it into the Hetton Lyons History books by scoring the fastest goal after just 12 seconds, a ball played through from the midfield chased by Cogden and the Dubmire defender and with the goalkeeper coming to meet it Cogdons pace beat them both to nip in and score. Things got worse for Dumbire when a cross from Keith Graydon and the defender sliced in to his own net and after 16 mins good work between Liam Beeston saw Nicky Kane score his first of the game 3-0. Minutes later Kane was the provider for Beeston and probably the goal of the game with a terrific strike that gave the goalkeeper no chance, 4-0 down and Dubmire must have wondered just how many the Lyons could score and with copious amounts of the ball the Lyons were creating plenty of chances. Keith Graydon scored from the penalty spot after Cogdon was brought down and Gavin Cogdon finished the half with another two goals to complete his hat-trick. The second half and with the Lyons making two subs the goals kept on coming Lewis Dodd’s scored after just been on the field for 3 minutes with a goal he won't forget Nicky Kane scored a hat-trick to make it four goals for him, Warren Byrne grabbed a couple of goals. The game was dominated by the Lyons but credit to Dubmire when they did get the ball they tried to play football and never lost their heads. In the Semi- Final of the Same Competition, Sedgefield Net Park entertained Pelton Roab with Netparks regular keeper unavailable, centre half Shepherd was selected to go in goal. Still there was little he could do with Pelton 4-0 up after 15mins, Netpark folded like a pack of cards. Some more great moves and clinical finishing by Pelton eased them into the Final. Netpark really didn’t threaten the Pelton goal and certainly put in their worst performance of the season. Pelton scorers Keith Lines 3 Craig Mickle 2 Carl Ritchie 2, Anthony Davidson and Kenny Ball.

In the Quarter Finals of the Alan Smith Trophy sponsored By Castle Insurances Ltd, East Rainton FC Cup dream is over after they were mauled by a rampant Brandon Bay horse 9-2. Scorers for the Bay Horse Anthony Blades 4, Paul Eilles 2, Michael Fort 2, Aaron Johnson.

In the Third Round Of the D and P Trophies Knockout Trophy Lumley Fc crashed out of the cup at the hands of visitors Kelloe Davey Lamp on penalty's, despite playing most of the game with 10 men as Gary Jackson saw red on 17 minutes. Before the red card Lumley had taken the lead through James Laidler. But Kelloe controversially equalized before half time. In the second half Kelloe took the lead despite strong offside appeals. Laider then equalized only for Kelloe to re-take the lead. But the 10 men weren't finished & Sean Henderson fired the equalizer with 2 minutes remaining. With extra time looming Lumley almost pinched it when Sean Henderson was denied with a goal line clearance. Both teams looked jaded in extra time & only the post denied Henderson a Lumley winner. Kelloe came out on top of the lottery that is penalties. The Washington Arms entertained Houghton Comrades, the Arms started strongly and after twice going close take the lead with a wonderfully flighted Dave Fittes free kick into the far corner of the net on the fifteen minute mark. The Arms continued to have the best of the play until the half time break after-which the Comrades pressed forward in numbers in search of an equaliser, however the well marshalled Arms defenders are up to anything they could muster and hold out to the final whistle to go through 1-0.

In the Quarter Final of the Bishop Auckland Heart Foundation Cup, Kelloe WMC FC needed extra time to beat West Auckland Eden Arms. Kelloe had the majority of the play but came up against some resilient defending and went through 2- 0 winners in the end. Substitute Gavin Barton firing home first from an Andrew Blackburn cross and then Barton again from 1 yard out after the other substitute Chris Smith back healed into his path.

In the League Premier Division Chester Hilda Park Traveled to Sedgefield St.Edmund’s .On a boggy pitch, Hilda Park started well and got into the faces of the Sedgefield lads not giving them anytime on the ball high up the pitch, Graeme Barber the Hilda Park Forward found himself in a unfamiliar position on the edge of the box and fired past the Sedgefield keeper in style to give Hilda Park a deserved 1-0 lead after 10 minutes. For the remaining 35 minutes, Hilda Park had to work Hard closing down and limited Sedgefield to only a few chances, whilst creating a few themselves, but the half ran out and Hilda Park went in 1-0 up to what was a very good first half display In the Second Half Sedgefield were Looking to level the scores Hilda Park defending well with Scott McGuire in the Hilda Park goal having a Brilliant Game,Sedgefield did find an equalizer with 20 minutes left to play, but neither side could find a winner. Full Time – Sedgefield St.Edmunds’s 1 – 1 Hilda Park Fc

In the First Division Sacriston Wmc Travelled to Burnside Wmc A good game for the neutral.A really good Sunday morning game played hard but fairly and in a good spiritSacriston started the better side having lots of possession in the 1st 15 min but unable to find the net. Burnside then got a foot in the game and started to stretch the Sacriston Defence forcing the stand in keeper to pull of some saves. Burnside managed to score from a well taken corner; Sacriston only managed to clear to the edge of the area and then failed to close down the midfielder who struck a powerful right footed shot into the top corner. Only minutes later they made it 2-0. Sacriston did not let their heads drop and pulled one back, Liam Summers headed in for a corner on his debut, the equaliser came not long after, it started deep inside their own half with Ben Sanderson winning the ball, he then went on a 40 yard run, his pace was too much for the opposition, he played it down the right hand side to Wardle and continued to head towards the box. Wardle clipped a lovely ball through for him and Ben curled it around the keeper. Sacriston were then guilty of poor defending and several defensive mistakes allowed the home side to score twice more before half time Half time score 4-2Sacriston started the second half like a different team, playing down the slight slope then dominated the game and had the majority of the possession. They created numerous chances and were rewarded when Peter Lawler slotted in from 6 yards out to make it 4-3. Burnside had their backs to the wall and defended brilliantly, Sacriston were having several shots but not all on target, the equaliser nearly came with good work down the right from Lawler, he crossed it for Shaun Foster but his little back heel crept past the post. Burnside were reduced to trying to catch them on the break and Sacriston paid the price with 15 min left, they had pushed lots of player forward and the Burnside broke down the left wing, Sacriston failed to clear the ball and the Burnside player drove the ball across the goal, Sacristons right back Aaron White tried to clear it but only succeeded in scoring an OG. 5-3Sacriston kept trying and Wheeldon hit the post from a tight angle but the Burnside saw the game out to collect the 3 points.and Langley Park Steelers were 2-1 Home winners Over Gilesgate Moor Hotel.

In the Second Division Coxhoe Wmc hosted Pelton FC today in a game which would see Coxhoe take a step towards promotion to division one. Adam McDonald gave Coxhoe a lead in the 6th minute to calm any early Coxhoe nerves and set them on the way to a comprehensive victory. Although there were no more goals in the first half the Pelton keeper made a great save from Man of the Match Simon Ord to keep the scores 1-0 at half time. Early in the second half Luke Lavery latched onto a loose ball just inside the 18 yard box to bury the ball in the top left corner of Pelton's goal to give Coxhoe a two goal lead. Pelton nearly scored with a quickly taken free kick only for Tom Orton to pull off a fantastic save to maintain Coxhoe's two goal advantage. With Coxhoe looking stronger and stronger as the game progressed Paul Broom finished well after a mazy run to give Coxhoe a 3-0 victory and sealed the 3 points for the home team. A Goal in the 80 Min was not enough for Chester Plough Inn as They Crashed to a 3-1 away Defeat at Sherburn Lambton Arms; Forward Ben Lloyd closed down the Sherburn Lambton Arms defender and won possession and then looked up and chipped the keeper from 30 yards

In The Third Division Framwellgate Moor Wmc Were 2-1 Winners At High Handenhold Bird Inn, New Durham Wmc Beat Bishop Middleham Cross Keys 5-0, Durham Missed 2 Penalties In The Game.Pelaw Grange Dogs Entertained Chester Easystreet Fc This entertaining game could of went either way. Pelaw were forced to make changes again at the back with players not being available for the second week running and also in mid field. After 5 minutes Andrew Tippins was brought down in the penalty box but the penalty kick was well saved by Easystreets keeper Mark Middlemass. However after a further ten minutes Pelaw Went ahead from a well worked move between Anthony Nicholson and Andrew Tippins who placed the ball neatly in the back of the net. Easystreet came back to make it 1-1. Pelaw went behind but then made a recovery with a cross from Gary Ryan reaching the back of the box for Anthony Nicholson to slide it home in the second half. They then went ahead with another penalty went Andrew Tippins was again brought down in the box and this time David Donnelly made no mistake to make it 3-2. Pelaw looked as if they were going to go on and win the game but then a shot from the edge of the box made it 3-3 with 7 minutes to go. Both sides were looking for a winner but in the end it remained 3 all with the pitch being the leveller. Referee L. Thompson had a good game and kept it moving.Witton Gilbert Wmc entertained Ferryhill Saints In a thrilling end to end game Ferryhill ran out 3-0 winners but Witton could count them selves unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet. Both keepers had tremendous games in an open encounter which saw first one team then the other attack.Ferryhill opened the scoring when Jack Cleckner, just in his second game of the season following injury, brought down the forward, the resultant penalty was very nearly saved by the outstanding John Smith who got hands to the ball but could not prevent it from going in. There followed an astonishing strike from the Ferryhill left back that screamed into the roof of the net from some 25 yards, although he was allowed far too much time. Just on half time the impressive Sam Renwick found himself through on goal but was forced wide by the outstanding Troy Race who mad several good saves throughout. A defensive error allowed Ferryhill to further extend their lead just after half time but Witton did not let their heads drop and came back very strongly and were denied time and again by good defensive work and saves from Race.

At the other end John Smith made several great saves to keep Witton hopes alive. Alas it was not to be Ferryhill probably deserved the win overall but the margin was maybe a little flattering. Impressive displays from John Smith, Wes Haley Sam Renwick and Scott Embleton for Witton.

In the Fourth Division Ferryhill Dynamo’s and visitors New Brancepeth Wmc shared the Points in a 0-0 Draw. Chester Cricket Club travelled to Langley Park to play the Rams Head, The Cricketers lost 5-3, John Adamson, Andrew Robinson and Steven Redshaw with the goals for Chester Cricket Club. This was a great game for the neutral fan as both teams had the lead on more than one occasion, Washington Colliery losing by the odd goal in a nine goal thriller against visitors Ferryhill Post Boy. Postboy took the lead then Colliery replied with an on the line tap in from Chris Grier, then against the run of play Colliery took the lead into halftime after Drew Gray smashed home a penalty after a foul on Andy Mcintyre. After half time Postboy scored two goals to regain the lead, Mathew Davison made it 3-3 after rounding the keeper and slotting home, shortly afterwards Andy Mcintyre smashed home a fine free kick to once again give Colliery the lead but the joys were short lived as Postboy scored two to get it to 5-4 which proved to be the final score.

The Arms respond well but are denied by keeper Lawson, however one minute before half time Danny Murray latches onto a miss-placed clearance to stab the ball home. The second half is dominated mostly by Washington but the well organised Comrades hold on well. Once again keeper Lawson denies Washington's man of the match Daz Green with what looked like a certain equaliser from a power-full header that he finger tipped over the bar. A great chance for others to make an impression and they certainly did that with a dominate performance against Bede Lodge. A comfortable victory with Martin Broom causing problems up front all game with his pace which resulted in a hat-trick, Stephen Turland 2, Nicky Walker and Ryan Boardman grabbing a goal a piece. And Sherburn Lambton Arms were 6-0 winners at Washington Lambton Village.

In the Third Division Pelaw Grange Dogs FC home game against Framwellgate Moor WMC FC just went ahead as the pitch had been played on the day before and it was very soft in the centre of the pitch. Pelaw went ahead in only the 5th minute with a fine goal by Andrew Tippins but then they went to sleep and Framewellgate scored almost immediately from the ko. After 20 minutes a fine move down the right saw Gary Ryan cross the ball in after Tippins had held the ball up to pass to him wide and Neil Worley was there at the near post to head Pelaw back in front. However Framwellgate came straight back again and made it 2-2 which stayed the same until after the half time. Both teams looked as though they were flagging. However after the break Andrew Tippins held the ball up from a corner and then turned and put the ball into the net to make it 3-2. Shortly afterwards again from a cross and pass move from the left saw Paul Curry running through the centre to hit the ball from edge of the Penalty box to make it 4-2 to Pelaw. Both sides with 30 minutes to go were physically tired but although Framwellgate tried to push forward they ran into a solid white wall of Pelaw Shirts who were then able to pass the ball around. Pelaw looked the more dangerous but the final score was 4-2 and referee Stephen Bulmer controlled the game well. Houghton Chilton Lodge were 6-2 Home winners Over Bishop Middleham Cross Keys.In the top of the table clash saw New Durham Wmc v East Rainton Fc, first half New Durham struck on 20 mins with a goal from Steve Bowes, and with further chances, but East Rainton keeper Tommy Hodgekiss keeping the score at one, second half New Durham played some nice football to open East Rainton defence .Mark Wild made 2. then from a corner John Renforth climbed above the Rainton defence to score his first goal of the season, marly made it 4 taking the ball round the defender and keeper for a tap if it wasn’t for the rainton keeper it could of been a lot more,4- 0 New Durham .Handenhold Bird Inn lost 3-2 at Pittington Fc. Chester Easystreet were 4-1 winners at Ferryhill Saints

In the Leagues Fourth Division Quarrington Hill wmc traveled to Framwellgate Moor Salutation a good game between two organised sides. Very evenly matched with both teams defending well and limiting the opportunities to score even though both played some excellent football at times. Well contested and refereed, the game was decided in the last five minutes when Gaz Walker for Quarrington Hill was fouled on the edge of the box. The ref indicated a free kick which Ricky Gardiner asked if he could take quickly and promptly chipped the ball into the unguarded net. Chester Cricket Club looked to get there promotion hopes back on track when they traveled to Washington Honest Boy. The Honest Boy took an early lead through a 25 yard effort from Dean Sinclair. Chester equalized just before half time when John Adamson poked home from close range. The home side took the lead again when the Honest boy striker Varty lobbed the CC keeper. Just after half time the cricketers equalized again when Jon Sexton finished at the second time of asking and then took the lead when Dan Irving played a neat one-two and finished well. It was then the home sides turn to equalize through another excellent effort from outside the box. Two late goals from substitute Jonathan Haggerty and Andrew Robinson ensured the away side took home the points. Another game of missed chances today for the Colliery as they entertained Dubmire Wmc . Washington Colliery had enough chances to win 3 games let alone 1, but it was the visitors who walked away with a 2-0 win and the 3 points, with a goal either side of half time.Ferryhill Dynamo’s shared the Points in a 4-4 Draw at Burnmoor Jkr, Ferryhill Post Boy were 2-1 Winners At Langley Park Rams Head., Chester Leonard’s were 5-3 winners at Durham Garden House.

Barons Brace Puts Kelloe Into Semi’s

By Groundhopper

In the Durham County Football Association delayed Sunday Cup Quarter Final Kelloe Wmc entertained Staindrop wmc and a Fine 3-1 win made sure they joined fellow Durham Sunday League Sides Brandon Bay Horse and Hetton Lyons Cricket Club in the semi-finals. It was the Staindrop Wmc who started brightly and went ahead from their first set piece corner. This lifted Kelloe into attacking mode but came up against an inspired goalkeeping performance. Kelloe had numerous chances but just couldn't find the net. ! - 0 at half time. The second half started much the same as Kelloe dominated possession and as Staindrop tired, Kelloe created their chances. Gavin Barton finished an Ian Ward cross after 75 minutes to settle their nerves. Kelloe then pressed further and quickly went in front when Ian Ward dribbled through the Staindrop defence and rounded the keeper making it 2 - 1. Barton then scored his second when chipping the keeper with 5 minutes to go making the final score 3 - 1 to Kelloe In the Semi Final they entertain Hetton Lyons Cricket Club at Kelloe on Sunday 20th March Kick Off 10-30 in the Other Semi Final Brandon Bay Horse Travel to Birtley to Play Gateshead Sunday League Side Barley Mow Wmc on the same Date.

In the Leagues Domestic Cups New Durham Wmc Reached the Final Of the Presidents Trophy with a Hard Fought Home win over Durham Bede Lodge 4-2. First Half Goals, 2 From Nicky Marley and 1 From Mark Wild, And a Second Half Goal from Andrew Chester did the Job for New Durham.

In the League Knockout Cup 2nd Round Houghton Comrades were 2-1 winners at Sherburn Village Lambton Arms In the 3rd Round of the Competition , Langley Park Steelers travelled to Quarrington Hill Wmc , A game where the quality of the opposition showed with Steelers playing excellent football and Quarrington Hill being punished for mistakes at both ends of the pitch. Having contained the league 1 side for 20 minutes and creating a few chances themselves, Quarrington Hill conceded a penalty which allowed Langley Park Steelers to take the lead. Another deflected goal then saw Steelers take much more control of the game leading to a half time score of 0-4. Second half Quarrington Hill played better but still could not match Steelers for ability and but for some outstanding saves from Quarrington Hill keeper Doc Clewes the score could have been worse than the 0-6 full time score. Q Hill did play well in parts but the difference in quality was reflected in the score.

In the Quarter Final of the Presidents Trophy Washington Lambton Village were 3-2 winners at Coxhoe Wmc.

In the League Cup Sponsored by Spennymoor town FC Hetton Lyons Cricket Club Travelled to Handenhold to play the Bird Inn, There was only ever going to be one winner in this game as the Lyons totally outclassed the home side. Hetton got off to a good start and after 5 minutes Daniel Moore was fouled in the penalty area and Keith Graydon scored from the spot 0-1. The Lyons had plenty of chances in the first half but some good goal keeping and clearances of the line and Jason Ainsley's rasping 25 yard drive that smashed against the cross bar kept the score down until just before half time good work between Keith Graydon and Michael Canavan and it was Graydon's shot that gave him his second goal and the Lyons to take a two goal lead. The second half was very much like the first with the Lyons well in control and Captain for the day Michael Canavan scored after 59 minutes, a great shot from Nicky Kane and the goalkeeper couldn't keep a hold of it and Canavan was there to put the ball in to the net 0-3. Warren Byrne finally got his goal with a shot from inside the box and the goalkeeper well beaten and the defender couldn't stop it from going over the line 0-4.

I think the home side were very relieved to hear the full time whistle as for most of the game they were totally outclassed and only bad shooting saved them from been defeated heavily.

The Weather again affected Games in the League with Only One game in the Premiership taking Place, Brandon Bay Horse winning 3-0 at Chester Hilda Park.

In the First Division all scheduled games took Place, Washington Arms got off to a great start in the Home Game against Burnside WMC with two goals in the first ten minutes. Danny Murray scored in the first minute and Gary Allen netted the second. Danny Murray increases the Arms lead with his second of the game on the thirty minute mark. Burnside get back into the game with a brace of goals, one either side of the half time break, from their man of the match Craig Ellison. However a defensive blunder lets the Arms in to increase their lead to 4-2 with fifteen minutes. Danny Murray missed a chance of a hat-trick by blasting a penalty kick wide of the goal. With five minutes to go the Arms finally kill off Burnside with a good individual goal from Michael Reay to make the final score 5-2.. David Hall struck the winning goal as Houghton Mill All Stars beat Gilesgate Moor Hotel 2-0 in a close division one encounter. Midway through the first half Mill's Nick Thompson lobbed a long high ball into the opposing penalty area where it struck the arm of a Gilesgate defender and referee Tommy Bulmer had no hesitation in pointing to the penalty spot. Gary Adey tucked away the resulting kick past keeper Scott Williams to put Mill ahead. On sixty five minutes Gilesgate were reduced in numbers when centre half Terry Patterson was dismissed for foul and abusive language towards the referee. Mill had just made a double substitution and the 'fresh legs' of Paul Rogerson and debutant Max Stoker gave Mill the upper hand against the ten men opposition. On eighty two minutes Stoker made a darting run down the right wing before crossing into the path of an incoming David Hall. Hall neatly rounded keeper Williams to slot home and give Mill a valuable win. Sedgefield Black Lion were 3-2 winners at Sacriston Wmc.

In the Second Division Chilton Wmc were 5-1 Home winners over Washington Lambton Village Inn, Chester Plough lost 3-2 at Waterhouses.

In The Third Division Only Two Games Out Of Five Were Played, Framwellgate Moor WMC Thumped Bishop Middleham Cross Keys 8-0, Michael Jones Was The Star Of The Show With 4 Goals For Fram, The Other Goalscorers Were Steven Carraher (2) And Jonathon Heslop (2). In Truth It Should Have Been By An Even Greater Margin As Fram Created And Spurned Dozens Of Chances. Bowburn Cooperage Lost 3-1 at Chester Easystreet.

In the Fourth Division promotion chasers Chester Cricket Club and Ferryhill Post Boy had to settle for a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw. The Post Boy arguably started the better of the two teams, applying pressure without creating a clear cut chance until their winger was allowed to drive into the box, leaving two defenders behind, to slide home from a tight angle. This shocked Chester CC into action and they gradually pulled themselves back into the game and, with half time approaching, some good work on the right from Ryan Davidson led to a Michael Redshaw shot being parried into the path of John Adamson who finished from close range. The second half was a tight affair with very few chances created by either side, but the final 10 minutes saw Chester CC spurn three excellent chances to snatch victory. Framwellgate Moor Salutation travelled to New Brancepeth Wmc A tough game for the Salutation today after ,They never got going at all today with Brancepeth bossing possession from start to finish and to be fair to them we never looked like getting to the game. They played football throughout with the left winger no 15 I think and their no 11 rang ring round us and caused all kinds of problems. Early in the second half Brancepeth had a man sent off for a bit of handbags off the ball but it didn’t change the game at all, the sally had more of the ball but only managed one or two chances of merit. All in all a 4-1 win for New Brancepeth wmc that was well deserved. Kelloe Davy Lamp were 3-2 winners at Washington Honest Boy,.Ferryhill Dynamo’s crashed to an 8-2 Defeat at Langley Park Rams Head. Durham Garden House travelled to Albany Park to play Washington Colloiery,Colliery got going the quickest and took the game to the opponents strait away but it was proved to be a game was full of missed chances from start to finish. Colliery went behind midway through the 1st half when Durham Garden's midfeilder burst through to beat the offside trap and just touched the ball past the advancing Tom Hallam to trickle into the empty net. Colliery huffed and puffed but nothing was coming off until just after the hour mark when Tom Hallam caught a Durham corner and threw it strait to Drew Gray who played a great ball down the line to Craig Neal who crossed for John Kelly who put the ball into the net.
