Swinburn Maddison Durham Sunday League Sunday 5th Spetember

New Brancepeth Wmc Fall to the Jury
Kelloe WMC FC entertained New Brancepeth in the 3rd round of the Alan Smith Cup and it was the visitors who started brightly putting Kelloe under pressure for the first 20 minutes.  Kelloe gradually started to dominate possession and went close when Gavin Barton hit the bar from a header.  0-0 at half time and the second half continued in the same way as Kelloe were guilty of missing several chances before John Jury scored with 10 minutes left.  From the kick off Kelloe gained possession and went up and scored their second with a strike from Kieran Megran.  The visitors then scored a last minute consolation goal. New Durham Wmc were 2-1 winners at Langley Park Wmc.

In the 1 st round of the President’s Trophy Chester Plough Inn entertained High Handenhold Bird Inn Fc, the home side started brightly however against the run of play The Bird Inn took the lead when Chris Cuthbert’s gave away possession and the Bird Inn took full advantage of the error to take the lead. The Plough surged forward in search of an equaliser and it didn’t take long. JOHN FORSTER making his first start of the season picked the ball up from 25 yards before unleashing a super strike into the roof of the net! The Plough Inn continued to press forward and took the lead when JOEL BADDAMS shot from outside the area squirmed under the goalkeeper’s body. Half time score 2-1 the second period kicked off and immediately burst into action when goalkeeper Stuart Lambert collided with the Bird Inn striker and the referee pointed to the spot. The penalty was duly converted to make it 2-2. Chester Plough Inn were still full of confidence that they would go on to win the game, however they were rocked ten minutes later The Bird Inn scored  to make it 3-2. The home side picked themselves up and continued to surge forward and put pressure on the away defence but found the Pelton Bird keeper in sparkling form pulling off a string of fine saves to keep his side in front. Ben Lloyd had a great strike from distance that look destined for the top corner, however the keeper managed to get a fingertip to the ball on to the cross bar. The Plough did grab the equaliser with 15 minutes remaining and it came from top scorer and defender MARK ATCHISON. Chris Cuthbertson took the corner which directly hit the rear post and Atchison tapped the ball in from close range. 90 Mins score 3-3With the game now into extra time the home side were hoping their fitness was about to come into it. They certainly looked the stronger of the two sides as they pressed forward for a winner. The home side did manage to grab the winner through BEN LLOYD as he headed home from close range to see The Plough through to the next round. In the 2nd Round of the Same Competition Coxhoe Wmc Travelled to Framwellgate Moor Salutation Div 2 highflyers were given the fright of their lives against a strong Farm Salutation side. Smarting from the previous weeks league defeat Salutation totally overwhelmed Coxhoe going 2-0 up in a comprehensive battering in the first 40 mins with goals from Johnny Bowen and Mark Hughes.Just before the break the visitors pulled one back. Salutation continued to make goal scoring chances but failure to finish let Coxhoe make it 2 all as the game approached the 90minute mark. The extra-time period saw Salutation lose several key players which gave Coxhoe the upper hand. The home team paid the penalty of countless missed chances losing the game 5-2, a result that doesn’t tell the full story Washington Victoria were 3-1 winners at Chester Leonards.

In the League’s Premier division Sedgefield St Edmunds Entertained Pelton Roab, Sedgefield went 2 nil up before half time with goals from Andrew Beamson and John Davies and had chances to increase their lead. Pelton pulled one back just after half time and with chances at both ends Sedgefield held on to get their first league win of the season thanks to good defending and good goalkeeping from veteran  Alan Wilkinson.Brandon Bay Horse were 3-0 winners at Washington Jfc

In the First  Divison Washington Arms Travelled to Ushaw Moor Cricket Club ,The Arms after having the majority of the possession had to settle for a share of the points in their division one clash with Ushaw Moor CC. Steve Crame opened the scoring for the Arms straight from a corner kick just before half time.  Ushaw Moor grabbed an equaliser fifteen minutes before the final whistle, Gilesgate Moor Hotel entertained Houghton Comrades another entertaining game with Houghton taking an early lead and having most of possession 1-0 at half time. Giles gate started the second half better than the first and had a few chances to equalise and they did 15mins in with Craig McManus latching on to a half chance and finishing well, but soon after Houghton punished Giles gate again going 2-1 up and it wasn’t long before they scored another 2 making it 4-1 Giles gate scored another 10 mins from the end Craig McManus got his 2nd of the game. The Biddick Inn were 3-1 winners at Barley Mow Inn.

In the Only Game in the 2nd Division Waterhouses Beat Washington Lambton Village.
In the Third Divison Chester Easystreet Travelled to Houghton Chilton Lodge,
Easy Street extended their unbeaten record to five games despite a disappointing 2-2 draw against Chilton Lodge. Despite going two goals to the good through Damien Baston and Andrew Coffer, a poor second half cost Easy dear yet again.

Easy were dealt a blow before the game had even kicked off with keeper Mark Middlemass unable to make the kick-off due to being stranded in Gateshead. It was left to Paul Corlett to take his place between the sticks, a position he took up in the first game of the season against Pelton Dog Track. Not wanting a repeat of that game, Michael Dalkin named the strongest possible side from the 13 players he had available with Lewis Holmes starting on the left, Baston in midfield and Coffer partnering Andrew Jacques up front. The first half was encouraging with some slick passing and deadly through balls unleashing the pace of Coffer, who was too hot to handle for the Chilton defence. It was Baston who did it after 20 minutes, striking a low shot from the edge of the box that just managed to beat the keeper.

Coffer then made it 2-0 with a finish of real quality. A lofted through ball from Marriott was seized upon by the striker who took one touch before volleying the ball into the net for his first goal of the season and for the club.

Easy were looking comfortable and good value for their lead. But a mistake from Marriott cost them dear just before half-time. A long ball from the Chilton backline was misjudged by the Easy centre half; the Chilton winger lobbed the ball over the advancing Corlett and into the net. The second half was yet another one to forget for Easy as Chilton frustrated them with some stern defending. With the home side cranking up the pressure on the Easy defence it was a question of when not if they would equalise. It became a reality 15 minutes from time. A ball into the box wasn't dealt with by Easy and despite the number of bodies in the area a Chilton player managed to get a foot to the ball and guide it into the net. Final score 2-2.Ferryhill Saints and Visitors Shadforth Plough shared the Points in a 2-2 Draw

In the Fourth Divison Chester Cricket C  Club travelled to Washington Colliery the Cricketers were handed an early advantage when the home goalkeeper failed to control a simple back pass, allowing it past him to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.  Washington Colliery went on to take a 2-1 lead as two defensive lapses allowed soft goals to be scored, however Chester CC found an equaliser before half time when Phil Forster hit a well struck shot after coming in from the right.  Chester CC started the second half well and took the lead when a good passing move was finished by Jonathan Haggerty .  Washington Colliery again found their way back into the match however, when a penalty was awarded and successfully converted after a Chester CC defender was adjudged to have handballed in the box.  The resulting debate saw Chester CC reduced to 10 men when Phil Forster saw red for a second booking for dissent.  Washington Colliery looked to have won the game with a headed goal from a free kick following some poor marking from the Chester CC defence.  The 10 men of Chester CC kept going and managed to salvage a point when some indecision between the home defence and keeper allowed Jonathan Haggerty to steal in and score his second.

In the First Round of the Durham County Football Association Sunday Cup the League had Mixed Fortunes. Newton Aycliffe wmc entertained Sunderland Hendon Vics, It was Aycliffe who attacked from the start and after 5 minutes Hanson turned the ball in at the near post to give them the lead. Five minutes later Swinburn fired home a loose ball and at 2.0 the match seamed over. Aycliffe continued to press, but in a break away Sunderland were awarded a penalty, which they put the wrong side of the post. With the half drawing to a close Cooper made it 3.0 to Aycliffe.A greatly under strength Aycliffe team took their foot of the pedal in the second half, and two well taken goals by Sunderland, put them back in the game. However there were no further goals and both sides were left rueing missed chances in the first half. Houghton Mill All Stars crashed out at the first hurdle with a 7-2 defeat away at Darlington Albert Hill WMC. Steve Malloy and Gary Adey were the Mill's goalscorers in what was a poor All-stars performance.Quarrington Hill Wmc Travelled to Hartlepool St Francis a close game well contested between two teams trying to play good football. St Francis took an early lead when a mistake by the Q's defence allowed a cross from the right to be turned in from close range. Q Hill rallied and got an equaliser with a fine finish from Dan Beaney. The game was decided by a second half penalty which was saved brilliantly by Stephen Peters, but St Francis were quicker to the rebound. A rampant Spennymoor Salvin Arms side spoilt East Rainton FC’s debut in the county cup.  Spennymoor controlled the game from start to finish and thoroughly deserved their victory winning 7-2.  Other Results
