By Groundhopper

Kelloe WMC FC entertained South bank of the Middlesboro Sunday Football League at Coxhoe's Beechfield Park in the preliminary round of the Football Association
All England Sunday  Cup. Kelloe Wmc suffered an early setback as the visitors took an early lead against the run of play. Kelloe Wmc pressed for an equaliser they were caught again on the break By South Bank and were 2 nil down after 30 mins. Kelloe Wmc. This woke Up Kelloe Wmc on 35 Mins they Pulled a Goal back Davey Southern Converted from just inside the box with the right foot, it was a well-finished individual goal. The Half Time score 2-1 to the Visitors.

After the break Kelloe dominated possession and were again guilty of missing numerous chances, hitting the post and bar twice. On 65 Mins John Jury was Up ended In the Box by a South Bank Defender, the Ref awarded Kelloe a Penalty with a clinical right footed shot Gavin Barton hit the back of the Net. To level the scores. In the 85 Min Kelloes Pressure paid Of as Keiran Megran Converted from outside the area with the right foot, Two Mins later Keiran Megran supplied the cross, and Davey Southern found the net from just inside the box with a tremendous right footed effort to Give Kelloe Wmc a 4-2 .Kelloe Wmc now Travel to Hull to play West Lee in the First Round on the 17
th October.

The Leagues Other Representatives in the Competition Holders Hetton Lyons Cricket Club are exempt until the Second Round of the Competition.

In the
Durham County Football Association Sunday Cup 2nd Preliminary Round, Washington Arms Travelled to Darlington to play Darlington Rolling Mill All Stars the Darlington Sunday League stormed into a two goal lead with a brace from Roy Donald. Late into the second half the Arms snatched two goals to take the game into extra time Stuart Blair and Tom Lumsden doing the damage. The Arms dominate the first period of extra time and a brace of goals from Chris Morrison gives them a comfortable lead, Craig Smith puts the result beyond doubt from the penalty spot to make the final score 5-2.Despite having a number of players missing, Chester Cricket Club continued where they left off from last weekend's defeat of Chester Hilda Park, beating Sunderland Colliery Tavern from the Sunderland League's 1st division 4 - 1.  From the start The Cricketers turned up with the right attitude, determined to put pressure on their opponents when not in possession and try and create things once they had won the ball.  Their approach paid dividends when a good ball out of midfield found Phil Forster on the right who supplied a pin point cross for Phil Quigley to nod home from six yards.  The remainder of the 1st half saw few chances created, though the away defence had to withstand some pressure from set pieces to enable The Cricketers to maintain a 1 - 0 lead at half time.  Chester CC came out for the 2nd half in confident mood, and seemed to have put the game to bed when a long punt forward from goalkeeper Jak Taylor reached Andrew Robinson, who expertly lobbed the keeper from 20 yards to give The Cricketers a 2 - 0 lead. The Cricketers followed this up with a third goal soon after, the home keeper allowing a speculative 30 yard effort from Phil Quigley to inexplicably go between his legs and into the net.  With the game seemingly heading towards a comfortable victory, the Cricketers conceded a penalty.  The initial effort was saved by Jak Taylor but the referee ordered a retake after a number of defenders had encroached; the penalty taker made no mistake this time and gave his side a route back into the game.  The penalty seemed to perk the home team up and they enjoyed a 5 or 10 minute period of possession and pressure on the away goal, however the game was finally over with around 10 minutes to go.  Another good cross from the right from Phil Forster again found Phil Quigley's head to allow him to complete his hat trick. Newton Aycliffe Wmc lost 1-0 at Sunderland Hylton Castle Seniors, Fatfield Biddick In were 9-0 winners at Stockton Sun Inn Athletic. Durham Garden House Lost 10-0 at Washington North Biddick Inn.   Dubmire Wmc were 4-2 winners at Sunderland New Silksworth. Chester Hilda Park

Once again we were let down by some of our players only  had bare 11 with a goalkeeper playing up front were beaten 1-0 by Visitors Gateshead Belle Vue Wmc

In the Alan Smith Memorial Trophy Durham Bede Lodge Travelled to Chester Leonard’s, In a game affected by the wind Bede Lodge took control in the first half and raced into a 4-0 lead. During the second half Leonard’s took advantage of the conditions and managed to score 2 goals which was bettered by Bede Lodge who again scored 4 goals. Bede Lodge goal scorers were Nicky Barker with 3 and Jonathon Kelly, Mark Mackenzie, Colin Laverick, Chris Vaughan and Robert Palmer who all scored 1 each.Hetton Lyons Cricket Club Travelled to Waterhouses for the 4th Round Tie. Waterhouses could have taken an early lead after 20 seconds but the strikers shot was wide of the Lyons goal. Michael Canavan opening the scoring for the Lyons after 15 minutes when the Waterhouses defence failed to clear the ball and the striker slotted the ball in to the net 0-1. Three minutes later and good work from Canavan again and his passed to Chris Lawther and his shot gave the keeper no chance 0-2. On the half hour mark a free kick from Keith Graydon from the edge of the box and a touch from Lewis Dodds looked like it was going in but Carl Beasley made sure it went in to claim the goal 0-3. Johnny Butler made Lawther's 2nd goal with some great work down the right hand side passed the ball to Lawther who beat the defender and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper 0-4. Lewis Dodds made it 5 for the Lyons just before half time with a brilliant goal working his way from midfield and then beating three defenders and then smashing the ball in the net 0-5 half time. The second half started where it had left off in the first when the Lyons got a penalty in the 51st minute when Keith Graydon was fouled in the box and Jason Ainsley scored from the spot to get his first of the season 0-6. Chris Lawther got his Hat-trick on 53rd minute with a great ball over the top from Ainsley and Lawther ran on to it and clinically put the ball past the keeper 0-7.Jason Ainsley doubled his tally when a ball from the left from Bell and Ainsley hit it on the volley from 20yds in to the top corner of the net 0-8.Ainsley was unlucky not to get his hat-trick minutes later but his shot was cleared off the line.Ainsley was the provider  again after 63 mins with a ball through to Canavan for him to score his second of the game 0-9. Minutes to go and Chris Lawther got his fourth goal of the game 0-10. Credit must go to Waterhouses who never stopped trying throughout the game. Chester the Osborne proved too strong for Houghton Chilton lodge but were held to a single goal in the first half, Paul Botcherby finding Chris Winn in the penalty area who obliged with a powerful header in to the back of the net. Chester Osborne Travelled to Houghton Chilton Lodge .The Osborne settled in to the second half and found themselves 2-0 up after a Dan Johnson cross was met by Wes Hood who headed past the Houghton keeper, Dan himself scoring the third after some good work by Winn and Hood in the build up.Wes Hood found himself on the end of a Andrew Willcock cross with a diving header to make it 4 before more good work from Chris Winn forced a save from the keeper only to parry it to the oncoming Willcock who couldn’t fail to make it five from close range. Chris Winn rounded off a solid display by all involved from the Osborne scoring his second and The Osborne’s sixth from 12 yards out. Houghton got their consolation goal when Ben Connolly misjudged a long kick from the Houghton keeper and let the ball bounce through to the forward who simply knocked it over the keepers head. A good game between a premier league and fourth division side. Quarrington Hill wmc entertained Brandon Bay Horse. The Hill started well and took the lead with a well taken 25 yd shot from Scott Wilson. Brandon replied with two goals within 20 mins. A penalty just before HT saw the lead increase to 3 - 1.Second half was well contested and Quarrington Hill continued to play some good football with MOM Gary Walker causing problems for Brandon and taking a well deserved goal. But the difference in class began to show and Brandon were deserved winners with the final score of 8 – 2

In the
Presidents Trophy Sedgefield Net Park made the Long Journey to Chester le Street to play Easystreet.A game that Easystreet should have won in 90mins but Darren Bill was outstanding in the NET Park goal. Still it was NET Park who were 3-2 up and seconds from winning the game until Easy street equalised with the last kick of the game, after some poor NET Park defending to take the tie into extra time.NETPark were down to 10 men with Martin Broom coming off injured all 3 substitutes had been used so NET Park were against it, then as soon as extra time started substitute Thomas Bradley pulled up with a hamstring strain but to his credit he stayed on the pitch albeit at walking pace, the game finished as a contest when Easy street scored their fourth, two other goals were added as the game fizzled out to put Easy street through to the next round.

In the  1
st Round of the JD Taxis Chester Plough Inn entertained Chilton Wmc The Plough took lead in the 1st minute then scored again after 25 mins.,Chilton pulled one back through Nick Pickford.Chilton scored again 2 mins before half time through Chris.Pickford.Chester had a man sent off for a professional foul. Chilton took lead in 53rd min through Dean.Taylor.And scored again in the 85th min with a thunderbolt shot from 30yds from full back A. Local which screamed into top corner passed a helpless keeper.

In the 4
th Round of the League Cup sponsored by Spennymoor Town Fc , Washington Colliery Travelled to New Brancepeth Wmc. It was Washington colliery who went 1-0 up in the 21 min with a deflected shot from outside the box from Gavin Neal; Brancepeth then drew level on 34 mins a headed goal from a corner, Brancepeth then took the lead on 40 mins with a good team passing move. Halftime 2-1 Brancepeth.second half Brancepeth dominated and scored a 3rd from a free kick which the colliery keeper saved but a Brancepeth player latched onto the rebound. And in the 80 min Brancepeth scored a 4th from the penalty spot fulltime 4-1 to Brancepeth Wmc.Ferryhill Saints were 4-1 winners at Kelloe Davy Lamp, Shadforth Plough Inn won 9-0 against Ferryhill Dynamo’s The Plough  played some nice Football  and it wasn’t long before they had the first goal of the game There were goals for Brent Ascherl (3), Ryan Ascherl, Ben Carman (2), Rob Wade (2) and Joe Simpson   and Washington Vic won 4-0 at Langley Park Rams Head.

In the League’s
Premier Division Washington  jfc welcomed Pelton RAOB , the game was played in good spirit, very competitive with Pelton starting the stronger putting jfc under pressure from the off, this paid dividends when Pelton made it 1-0 after 10 minutes into the game after a goal mouth scramble Paul Freeman Netting  from 4yds. After end to end play JFC levelled the score with a very well taken goal by Marc Baxter who’s half volleyed shot from 25yds went in off the bottom of the left hand post 1-1, the game was decided when Pelton were awarded a penalty decision, given by the ref for pushing and Pelton centre forward Luke Kerry slotted the ball home comfortably, Pelton made it 3-1 five minutes from the end Carl Ritchie Firing Home. Sedgefield St Edmunds entertained Langley Park Wm.

Langley Park went 1-0 up before half time but had a man sent off shortly after the start of the second half. Sedgefield won comfortably after 2 goals from Andrew Beamson and a goal each for John Davies and Paul Cleary.

In the
First Division an entertaining game at Sacriston Welfare saw Sacriston entertain Gilesgate Moor Hotel, Sacriston reached the half time break with a deserved 2 goal lead. David Wardle continued his rich vein of form by opening the scoring with Gary Varty adding the second. Gilesgate started the second half in much better style and soon were level. Both sides had chances to win the game but on reflection a draw was a fair result. Houghton Comrades were 1-0 Home winners Over Langley Park Steelers. Burnside wmc were 5-4 winners at Barley Mow Inn. Houghton Mill All Stars had a comfortable 6-1 win against Sedgefield Black Lion. Mill were two up within the first twenty minutes. Philip Thompson netted the first - his first goal for eighteen months - side footing home following a cross from Nick Thompson and Kevin Johnston slotted the ball through the keeper's legs for the second. Mill's third after thirty five minutes was the goal of the game - David Hall collected the ball in his own half then poked the ball around Sedgefield's centre half on the half way line before running the rest of the pitch towards goal, rounding the keeper and slotting the ball into an empty net. Dan Newby pulled one back for Sedgefield just before the break firing in from the left wing. Gary Adey netted goals four and five - a free kick blaster from twenty yards out and a header after a fine run and cross by Steve Malloy. With ten minutes remaining Kevin Johnston doubled his goal tally knocking in another Steve Malloy cross to seal a 6-1 win.

In the
Second Division Lumley Fc  entertained Pelton Fc ,Sean Henderson grabbed a brace as Lumley collapsed at the hands of Pelton loosing 9-2.

In the
Third Division The Bird Inn threw the points away with some bad defending to get beat at home by Visitors Bishop Middleham Cross Keys  5-6 with goals from Neil Tiffen, Jonathan Swift and a penalty from Shane Swift and two own goals from Bishop Middleham.M.O.M going to Jonathan Swift.Back to the bread and butter of Division 3 this week for East Rainton FC who entertained Pelaw Grange Dogs FC.  Pelaw started brightly and took the lead through some clever of the ball running from the Pelaw striker and a clinical finish.  The Lead was doubled from a long-range effort, which left the Rainton keeper with little chance.Rainton got a lifeline when Gaunt crossed for Hopps to score at the back post.  Lowther was making his presence felt in the middle of the park.  Gaunt was again the provider for Spence who made the game level at 2-2.  Rainton where then undone again when the Pelaw striker ran through on goal and managed to slot the ball past the oncoming keeper with the aid of a defensive deflection. Pelaw where then reduced to ten men with a straight red card for a strong tackle on Spence.  Unfortunately the Spence could not continue and Rainton could not make the numerical advantage count.  Final score 3-2 to Pelaw.Bowburn Cooperage Lost 4-0 at Pittington

In the
Fourth Division in the Only Game Played Framwellgate Moor Salutation Travelled to play Washington Honest Boy. Washington Honest Boy fc controlled the game from start to finish, with a comfortable win over Framellgate Moor Salutation. With a contender for goal of the season from Ross Sinkeld also getting a hatrick with man of the match as well. Also a hatrick for Martin Fishwick with his first opportunity as a forward. Another goal for Dean Sinclair finished off the salutation keeping up his record of at least a goal a game.

FA Sunday Cup

The FA Sunday Cup ,131 teams applied and the FA accepted 130, so on the face of it, it sounds like just 1 team was denied entry in to the competition. However, on closer examination, 4 applicants were refused (Canada, Garston, Lion Athletic and Seymour). 3 of these sides are from the Liverpool & District SL. Lion Athletic are members of the Crosby & District league. So, not a good day for the Liverpool FA then, losing 4 sides. This would be a big problem for the majority of County FA's but as Liverpool will still have 22 sides in the cup, it doesn't affect them too much!

Replacements

CB Hounslow United - West Middlesex SL
Golden Lion - Croydon SL
Towngate - Heavy Woollen Gate SL (West Riding)

All of the above were not on the original list of entrants. I guess they were late in applying.
Warstones Wanderers of the Wolverhampton & District SL have become the first casualties in the Sunday Cup, before they have even played a game in it!!They have withdrawn from the competition, so their opponents, 3 time semi finalists Birstall Stamford of the Charnwood SL, have a walkover in to the 2nd round.Wisbech St Mary have become the second side to withdraw from the competition before its even begun. The team from the Kings Lynn Sunday league were due to travel to Cannock Chase, to face Belt Road, who now have a walkover in to the 2nd round.

Cricketers Overcome Park

Newcomers in the Fourth Division Chester Cricket Club caused a major cup upset in the Alan Smith Memorial Trophy 3rd Round, beating neighbours Premier League side Chester Hilda Park 4-2. Despite having the better of the early exchanges Chester Cricket Club fell behind when a push on the Cricketers centre half Michael Redshaw went unpunished leaving the Hilda Park forward a simple finish. This spurred the Cricket Club on and they quickly found a way back into the game, a good cross from Andrew Robinson being turned into his own net by the Hilda Park defender. The Cricketers continued to press forward but again found themselves behind when a challenge from the Cricketers' left back Steve Redshaw saw a penalty conceded and duly converted. Chester Cricket Club again showed their resolve however, by fighting back and finding a second equaliser when the ball broke to Jonathan Haggerty in the box, who provided a comfortable finish to send the teams in level at half time. The second half saw Chester Cricket Club really stamp their authority on the game, and they took the lead following some indecision between the away keeper and his defenders, which allowed Jonathan Haggerty to pass the ball into an empty net. Hilda Park rarely threatened in the second half and were reduced to 10 men after a cynical foul saw their centre half receive a second yellow. With Chester Cricket Club continuing to dominate all over the pitch, the game was wrapped up when a pin point pass from Andrew Robinson to Ashley Balfour on the right was fired into the Hilda Park Net. Chester Cricket Club striker Andrew Robinson hit the post with a deft header in the Final Minutes of the game. Final Score 4-2 to the Cricketers.Shadforth Plough Inn were 5-1 winners at Burnmoor JFC and Washington Victoria won 4-1 at Langley Park Rams Head. Kelloe Davy Lamp FC entertained East Rainton FC for this 3rd round clash. East Rainton were on the back of four straight defeats and showed great character to win this game 9-2. With a 2-2 score line at half time and the game evenly balanced. Rainton put in their best performance of the season.

In the League Cup sponsored By Spennymoor Town Fc , Dubmire Wmc Entertained Quarrington Hill Wmc, and Dubmire who started really well and played some excellent football and scored some great goals. Goals from Ben Maddison 3,David Finch 3 ,David Brymer 1,Elsdon Thompson 1,Frank Henshaw 1,Jon Jordison 1 .Gave Dubmire a 10-0. Win. Chester Osborne Wmc entertained Sedgefield Black Lion, Wes hood found the net on half an hour with a glancing header past the stranded keeper from a Chris Bennett cross.

The Black lion found themselves reduced to ten men when their defender brought down Chris Winn who was through on goal. The Osborne found it hard to break down a resilient 10 men, but with a cracking solo effort from Chris Winn it gave the Osborne a 2-0 win, before the goal of the game, Chris Davison skipped past one player from defence and let fly with a forty yarded straight over Sedgefield's keeper. Black lions goalkeeper deserving a mention as it was him who kept the score down, Osborne were 3-0 winners..Fatfield Biddick In were 5-1 winners at Burnside Wmc, Gilesgate Moor Hotel were 2-1 winners at Langley Park Steelers and Pelaw Grange Dogs entertained Houghton Chilton Lodge, It was Pelaw who were the first to threaten in the game, particularly down the left hand side where Paul Hargreaves drove forward at every opportunity and he soon had a chance to shoot from just over 20 yards but saw it go wide, but his next effort from a little further out forced a very good save from keeper Boardman. Craig Johnson then rode a tackle just inside the Pelaw half before driving on and striking from 25 yards, it looked like Laws would just need to push it over the bar but he didn't get enough of a hand on it and it dropped into the net behind him to put Houghton 1-0 up. This knocked Pelaw's confidence and we didn't see much from them until Bain struck a beauty from long range right into the top corner going in off the post. Houghton though, hit back straightaway when Armstrong restored their lead to see them go in 2-1 up at the break. Pelaw then had much the better of the 2nd half. With 20 minutes to go Neil Worley went through one on one and calmly slid the ball past Boardman to equalise. Chris Gosnell then came on for David Carter. Pelaw continued to push and were rewarded when the ball broke to David Fleming on the edge of the area who hit a great shot high into the corner to make it 3-2. Anthony Nicholson then replaced Chris Hawkins up front and on one of many breakaways as Houghton searched for a route back into the game, he squared the ball on the edge of the box to Worley who beat the keeper once again with a very good finish for his second to make the final score 4-2 to Pelaw.

In the JD Taxis Trophy Sacriston WMC entertained Bowburn Cooperage, It was Sacriston Wmc who eventually edged a closely fought contest played in good spirit. To be fair the early passage of play was pretty scrappy with both sides failing to get a hold on the game. Sacriston went ahead mid way through the first half when Andrew White side footed past the Bowburn keeper after good build up play from Aaron White. Bowburn levelled deep into the second half from a penalty after the Bowburn centre forward was deemed to have been fouled from behind. Sacriston scored the winner 5 minutes from time after good work from David Wardle and Andrew White saw Ben Sanderson score from close range. If both sides had taken their chances this game could have finished 6 a piece but a combination of poor finishing and some excellent goalkeeping particularly form John Lee, the Sacriston goalkeeper, kept the scores down New Durham Wmc progressed into the next Round, beating Durham Bede Lodge Lodge 2,0,first half saw New Durham take the lead through a 40 yard strike from Mickey Parker,2nd half New Durham piled the pressure on, and got the second from Andrew Chester, Washington colliery welcomed visitors durham garden house in the 2nd round of the jd taxis cup. With this in mind the manager barry davison again decided to shuffle the pack. The 1st half was full of wasted and missed chances by both teams, 0-0 at the break. 2nd half started and still both teams were guilty of missing chances until the hour mark when the durham garden house attack pounced on some lack luster defending by the colliery to break through and chip advancing keeper tom hallam with a neat finish to go 1 nil up. Colliery only had to wait 10 mins to get back into the game when some good work by matthew davison led to kris millen getting a shot in from range resulting in a deflection and the keeper diving over the ball 1-1. 10 mins later colliery scored what proved to be the winner when gavin neal produced the best cross of the game from a corner to put the ball straight on to jamie wilsons head who powered the ball home from a yard out. Colliery advance to the 3rd round after a hard fought victory against durham garden house. In the Leagues Premier Division Pelton Roab entertained Kelloe Wmc , a well deserved win for Pelton 4-2 with goals from Luke Kerry 2 ,Craig Mickle and Michael Graver, Kelloe started brightly and took and early lead through a strike from Kieran Megran. Pelton then came into the game and scored making the game 1 all at half time. After the interval Pelton created chances and went 4 - 1 in front. Gavin Barton scored a late consolation goal. Sedgefield st Edmunds Lost 4-2 at Brandon Bay Horse.Ferryhill Wmc earned a Point at Washington JFC. In the 0-0 draw. In the First Division Washington Arms had a comfortable 7-3 win over the youngsters of Birtley Barley Mow Inn. The first two goals coming from corner kicks, David Lyall and Andrew Elliot heading home. James McCraney pulled a goal back before the Arms stormed to a four goal advantage with goals from Daz Green, and a brace from Chris Morrison. After the break Barley Mow mount a determined fight back, goals from Jordan Smith and sub Phillip Marriott rattle the Arms. The Barley Mow pressing forward in search of more goals are caught out with a quick Arms breakout that is finished off by Chris Morrison to complete his first hat-trick of the season. Arms substitute David Ramsey makes it seven in the final minuteI In a tight division one encounter Houghton Mill All Stars drew 2-2 awayat Ushaw Moor CC.

Mill took the lead after twenty minutes when Kevin Johnston raced into the goal area from the left hand corner and fired a hard low cross into the six yard box where an outstretched Steve Malloy poked the ball into the net. Ushaw Moor equalised on the half hour when poor marking in the Mill's defence allowed Michael Chapman to head home from a free kick. On the hour mark Mill's Kevin Johnston had a glorious opportunity to score but dallied too long in the goal area and was eventually closed down. After sixty five minutes Gary Adey blasted a twenty five yard free kick straight at keeper Stephen Hancock who could only parry the ball to the feet of David Hall who slotted in for 2-1.With ten minutes remaining a neat through ball split the Mill's defence to find Scott Nattrass who ran at goal before his shot went in off the post beating keeper Ian Price for 2-2. In the second Division Sedgefield NET Park FC entertained Chester Plough Inn, A good game with two teams playing the game in a great manner.Netpark wasted numerous chances in the first half which finished goalless.

Plough Inn took the lead after 60mins Joel Baddams firing home, but this woke Net park up a little and they responded within minutes with a well taking goal by Ryan Boardman, NET Park then scored the winner with a cleared corner that was knocked back into the penalty box for centre half Lee Peat to score his 4th of the season with a headed goal that was looked to be a touch offside to give Net park a well deserved 2-1 win. Lumley FC entertained Washington Lambton Village; Lumley Conceded Form a Set Piece and Spurned a Host of Chances Allowing Lambton Village to Leave with A 1-0 Victory.Coxhoe Wmc maintained their position at the top of the second division with a 3-2 victory away to West Rainton. Coxhoe started brightly and were rewarded for their efforts with a 25th minute Paul Broom goal when a flowing move was finished in style with a right foot volley from all of 25 yards. Colin Young added Coxhoe's second goal in the 37th minute after good work in the penalty area saw him drive a low left foot shot beyond the West Rainton keeper. Coxhoe went further ahead in the 65th minute when Michael Cairns struck with a clinical volley to give them a 3-0 lead. A nasty facial injury to Paul Broom and two late goals from West Rainton were not enough to stop Coxhoe extending their unbeaten run in league and cup to 8 games. In the Third Division Bishop Middleham Cross Keys and Pittington Fc shared the Points in a 2-2 Draw, The Bird Inn lost 3-0 at Ferryjhill Saints and Easystreet and Visitors Witton Gilbert Wmc shared the Points in a 3-3 draw. In the Fourth Division Framwellgate Moor Salutations roller coaster season continues, having struggled to get a team out for the previous game the home side had nearly its full team appearing today. Arms Loose Out in Nine Goal Thriller!

The second round of the Alan Smith Memorial Cup brought together local rivals Washington Arms and Fatfield Biddick Inn in a local derby that produced a nine goal thriller. The Arms storm into a three goal lead with a John Wilson opener followed up with a brace from Chris Morrison, but with five minutes to the half time whistle Gavin Grieves pulls a goal back. The Biddick take command of the second half but it took the introduction of subs Lee Baxter and Chris Lowery to break the Arms resolve. Baxter makes it 2-3 and two minutes later man of the match Richard Logan hits the equaliser. Biddick continue pressing forward and with eight minutes of normal time remaining Lowry puts them ahead. The Arms dig deep and press forward in numbers for the final minutes and are rewarded with an injury time equaliser, Carlo Barrass scrambling the ball home. The extra time is evenly contested and just when it looks like going to a penalty shoot-out super sub Lee Baxter strikes the Biddicks winner with the last kick of the game.  Gilesgate Moor Hotel were 2-0 winners at Burnside Wmc.Chester Plough Inn were back in cup action as they travelled to fellow division 2 side Waterhouses FC.

Waterhouses took the lead. A long punt up field from the goalkeeper wasn’t dealt with and the Waterhouses striker ran on to the ball and bundled his effort over the line past Stuart Lambert in the away goal. Waterhouses doubled their led on the 20th minute mark when the away defence failed to clear and the striker made no mistake from close range. The Plough Inn were now facing an uphill battle at 2-0 down but picked their game up and raised the tempo. Andrew McGuiness playing in at full back brought the ball inside and chipped a lovely ball over the top of the defence for JAMIE SEYMOUR to run from a deep position and coolly slot past the home keeper. The goal gave the away side a much needed lift and ten minutes later grabbed a deserved equaliser when Ben Lloyd done a sublime bit of skill before providing a fantastic through ball for JOEL BADDAMS to run onto and fire past the Waterhouses keeper. Half Time saw the scores Level at 2-2.The Plough Inn started the second half and were very slow out the traps. Waterhouses were enjoying most of the possession although never provided any real great threat in front of goal. Chris Dodd’s for the home side, sheer determination was winning the midfield battle and his Ariel presence was causing problems for the away side. Waterhouses took a deserved lead as John Adamson stood and appealed for an offside and the Waterhouses player continued his run and shot at goal, only to see it saved brilliantly by goalkeeper Stuart Lambert but his colleague followed up and put the ball in the back of the net. The Plough pressed forward and had some great opportunities to grab an equaliser. First of all Hill linked well with Seymour who raced clear of goal only for an excellent last ditch tackle prevent him from scoring. Hill was involved again when his curling effort crashed off the cross bar and away to safety with the keeper beaten and in the last few moments Joel Baddams shot tamely at the keeper from only 6 yards out. The Final Score 3-2 to Waterhouses.

In the Spennymoor Town Fc League Cup Pelton ROAB were too powerful for  Chester Leonards, as Pelton were 9-0 winners.

In the 2nd Round of the President’s Trophy Dubmire WMC FC entertained Pelton Fc A hard fought win against a strong pelton side .Dubmire started the more brighter and there passing was causing Pelton problems .an excellent shot from 25 yards from Donaldson was spectacularly saved by the pelton keeper .Madison went on a run and after beating 3 men he then sent the keeper the wrong way to only see the ball hit the side netting .another flowing move sent Eldson away down the right and shot Cum cross could only be helped into the back of net by the defender  .1-0Pelton started coming more into the game and went close on a couple of occasions .Another attack and Pelton equalised when a ball dropped on the edge of the box and the midfielder hammered it through the players and into the net .1-1Pelton had the ascendency and were causing Dubmire problems and another ball knocked out of the area fell to another midfielder and he put it into the net with ease .2-1 Half time Dubmire came out meaning business and pushed pelton back in search of the equaliser and it came after 55 mins when another great move resulted in Price crossing and the ball fell to finch who spun and hit a spectacular volley into the top corner giving the keeper no chance .2-2Dubmire were pressing for a winner and pelton were struggling to contain them another one touch passing move sent Pricey away down the right and he lashed the ball towards the Goal the keeper was caught out and could only help it into the net .3-2Pelton threw everything at Dubmire and they missed to great opportunities inside the box .But Dubmire were able to hold on to a well-deserved Cup Win. East Rainton FC entertained New Durham WMC in this all Division 3 clash.  New Durham WMC proved to be too strong and ran out easy 8-0 winners. A poor start from Durham Bede Lodge saw Bishop Middleham Cross Keys take a 3-0 lead within 30 minutes of the start. Shortly after Nicky Barker scored to reduce the deficit and it remained 3-1 until half time. The second half was dominated by Bede and goals from Nicky Barker and 2 from Phil Clark confirmed a well-deserved and great comeback for Bede Lodge worthy 4-3 winners. Chester Cricket Club travelled to Chilton WMC.  Chester CC more than matched their 2nd division opponents in a tight 1st half, creating some decent chances without being able to really test the home keeper.  The Cricketers were denied a goal midway through the 1st half when the ball fell a foot over the line, but with the referee unsure he was unable to give it.  The Chester CC defenders were called upon to make a number of last ditch tackles and blocks to keep the game goalless going into half time.  The 2nd half was a similarly tight affair but Chester CC's creativity seemed to have deserted them.  Chilton WMC went close to scoring, hitting the woodwork a couple of times before making the breakthrough with around 20 minutes to go.  With Chester CC pushing for an equaliser, Chilton put the game to bed with a second goal. Injury Hit Lumley Fc Travelled To Kelloe Davey Lamp For Their Presidents Trophy Tie, With Only The Bare Bones Of A Team. They Fell Behind To 2 First Half Goals. In The Second Half Saw Chances At Both Ends But Kelloe Scored Their Third. Lumley Piled On The Pressure & Strikes From Wood Then Laidler Made For A Great Finish Only For Kelloe To Break Away & Secure Their Place In The Next Round With A 4-2 Win. Witton Gilbert progressed into the next round of the Presidents cup through a 7 -2 win over 4th division Durham Garden House. The first half Witton Gilbert dominated and should have been more than 3 goals up thanks to Calcutt scoring twice and Smith the other. This was to prove decisive as within fifteen second half minutes Durham pulled two goals back with Witton Gilbert on both occasions allowing an opposition attacker time and space to score two well taken goals. Thankfully the mini comeback was short lived as Witton managed to score four goals unanswered though Bradley, Embleton, Summers and substitute Jewitt to but a more realistic perspective on the score line. A stand out player from today’s game was Grant Boyd who ran the show in midfield and thoroughly deserved the man of the match award. Although Witton managed to win by five goals they will not have been happy with the way they started the second half allowing the opposition far too much time and space and letting them back into the game. Against better opposition this could prove crucial when defending a lead.

In the Premier Division Leaders Hetton Lyons Cricket Club travelled to play unbeaten Chester Hilda Park, Hilda Park with a 100% record so far this season knew they would face a team that would put them on the back foot for a lot of the game and the Chester goalkeeper was in the thick of it after 4 minutes when he denied Jason Ainsley from scoring with a fingertip save, a minute later he denied Tommy English from opening the scoring with another great save. The Lyons kept up the pressure and in the 26th minute a corner from Johnny Butler and Carl Beasley rose above everyone else to head the ball in to the net 0-1. The Lyons went 2 up after 32 minutes when English work hard on the left hand side and crossed the ball and Warren Byrne's excellent finishing gave the goalkeeper no chance 0-2. Shortly after the restart Beasley replaced Lyons keeper Simon Bishop who had a hamstring injury, half time was approaching and the Lyons kept on the pressure Steven Capper crossed from the left hand side and once again Byrne found the back of the net with a great strike 0-3 half time. In the 54th minute the Lyons were awarded a penalty when the Chester defender was alleged of holding Byrne he duly stepped up and gave the keeper no chance with his spot kick and to claim his hat trick 0-4.  Warren Byrne scored his 4th goal of the game in the 62nd minute with a great ball from Ainsley and Byrne's strike gave the keeper no chance 0-5. Hilda Park scored a consolation goal from the kick off with some good work on the right hand side and Williamson slotted the ball passed Beasley 1-5. Liam Beeston was unlucky not to score 10 minutes later with a great cross from Lewis Dodd’s and Beeston's strike hit the post and the goalkeeper gathered the rebound. Full time 1-5. Sedgefield st Edmunds entertained Ferryhill Wmc an even first twenty minutes until Ferryhill had two players sent off for throwing punches. Sedgefield peppered Ferryhills goal after that, hitting the bar and the post until Sedgefield Debutant Paul Cleary grabbed the winner in the 93rd minute. After good work from John Davis. Kelloe WMC FC travelled to Washington JFC with the bare 11 including manager and assistant who were forced to play.  Kelloe started brightly and had chances to score first but the only goal of the game came after 60 mins when Andrew Soppitt headed back for Gavin Barton to finish, to give Kelloe  1-0 win.

Sacriston Cricket Club entertained Newton Aycliffe Wmc, Newton Aycliffe took the lead on 31 minutes when Hall’s poor attempt at a pass aimed at Fenton on the left hand side was cut out and the Newton Aycliffe player intercepted the ball and passed it forward to his team mate who shot from 20 yards and his shot squirmed underneath Hall’s body for a goal. This shook Sacriston for a while and on 45 minutes things looked to be going for bad to worse when Marc Bladen fouled an Aycliffe player in the box to concede a penalty. Hall redeemed himself saving the penalty by diving to his right and pushing the ball to safety. Then on 61 minutes the Cricketers levelled the scores, Gary Draper won a free kick which he took himself and he found the head of Rob Draper who beat the on rushing Aycliffe keeper to the ball to head home the equalizer., Yates put the Cricketers 2-1 ahead on 67 minutes when he broke clear of a couple of defenders and his shot found the bottom right hand corner. Then on 75 minutes Sacriston made it 3-1 when Yates picked up the ball just inside his own half and turned and ran past at least 6 players and a couple of his own in a direct route to goal where he eventually squared the ball to his striking partner Renwick who slammed home his shot from just inside the box. Newton Aycliffe came straight back and on 77 minutes scored when a ball was centred into the box from the by line and was well finished from around 12 yards with a shot into the roof of the net.The final whistle blew with the Cricketers winning 3-2

In the First Division Sacriston Wmc looking for their first win of the season, travelled to Birtley Barley Mow Inn, Sacriston with an understrength side went 3-0 down; Sacriston had plenty of possession but could not find the goal until just before half time when Davey Wardle scored to make it 3-1 at half time. Sacriston started the second half the much better side and thanks goals from Wardle, White and Wheeldon Sacriston went 4-3 ahead, birtley pulled one back to level the game, but Sacriston proved too strong with a goal from Shaun Foster and Davey Wardle scored again to complete his hat trick. Final Score Birtley 4 Sacriston WMC 6.Houghton Mill All Stars and Langley Park Steelers produced a thrilling league division one encounter.

Both sides played attractive football throughout and despite chances at both ends the first half remained goalless which was mainly due to two excellent saves from Mill keeper Ian Price. Steelers broke the deadlock on fifty two minutes when a neat through ball from the left into the inside right channel found Ben Harris who ran at the Mill goal and duly slotted it under the advancing Price. But within five minutes Mill had equalised when Gary Adey latched onto a loose ball in Steelers defence, he then rounded keeper Moralee to score into an empty net. The game continued to flow from one end of the field to the other, both keepers were in fine form and it looked like the only way the match could be settled would be by something special - and indeed it was. After seventy minutes Steelers' Craig Thompson collected the ball thirty five yards from goal and leashed a pile driver of a shot which deceived keeper Price and thundered into the top corner of the net to seal a 2-1win for Steelers.

In the Second Division Sedgefield Net Park travelled to Washington Victoria, A really good game of football for the neutral two teams who know each other very well battling and playing the game in a first class manner. An evenly contested first half but Victoria were the more clinical of the two teams given them a 4-2 half-time lead.

NET Park knew the first goal in the 2nd half was going to be a vital one and it was NET Park who scored the third making it game on, NET Park then started to dominate creating the better chances and they drew level on 75mins. Victoria were still dangerous with their two prolific strikers always a threat but NET Park scored two within 5mins after 80mins to put the game out of Victoria's reach. A well-deserved 3pts for NET Park with goals from Barber 3, Turland 2 and 1 from mom Kevin Broom.

In the Only Game in the Third Division High Handenhold Bird Inn entertained Chester Easystreet Evenly matched game with chances falling to both teams but the Bird took the only chance of the game after a loverly through ball from Terry Mackell found Neil Tiffen who took one touch then drove it right footed into the left corner on 20 mins. More chances fell to both sides but good defending from the bird In gave them a 1-0 win.

New Brancepeth Wmc Fall to the Jury
Kelloe WMC FC entertained New Brancepeth in the 3rd round of the Alan Smith Cup and it was the visitors who started brightly putting Kelloe under pressure for the first 20 minutes.  Kelloe gradually started to dominate possession and went close when Gavin Barton hit the bar from a header.  0-0 at half time and the second half continued in the same way as Kelloe were guilty of missing several chances before John Jury scored with 10 minutes left.  From the kick off Kelloe gained possession and went up and scored their second with a strike from Kieran Megran.  The visitors then scored a last minute consolation goal. New Durham Wmc were 2-1 winners at Langley Park Wmc.

In the 1 st round of the President’s Trophy Chester Plough Inn entertained High Handenhold Bird Inn Fc, the home side started brightly however against the run of play The Bird Inn took the lead when Chris Cuthbert’s gave away possession and the Bird Inn took full advantage of the error to take the lead. The Plough surged forward in search of an equaliser and it didn’t take long. JOHN FORSTER making his first start of the season picked the ball up from 25 yards before unleashing a super strike into the roof of the net! The Plough Inn continued to press forward and took the lead when JOEL BADDAMS shot from outside the area squirmed under the goalkeeper’s body. Half time score 2-1 the second period kicked off and immediately burst into action when goalkeeper Stuart Lambert collided with the Bird Inn striker and the referee pointed to the spot. The penalty was duly converted to make it 2-2. Chester Plough Inn were still full of confidence that they would go on to win the game, however they were rocked ten minutes later The Bird Inn scored  to make it 3-2. The home side picked themselves up and continued to surge forward and put pressure on the away defence but found the Pelton Bird keeper in sparkling form pulling off a string of fine saves to keep his side in front. Ben Lloyd had a great strike from distance that look destined for the top corner, however the keeper managed to get a fingertip to the ball on to the cross bar. The Plough did grab the equaliser with 15 minutes remaining and it came from top scorer and defender MARK ATCHISON. Chris Cuthbertson took the corner which directly hit the rear post and Atchison tapped the ball in from close range. 90 Mins score 3-3With the game now into extra time the home side were hoping their fitness was about to come into it. They certainly looked the stronger of the two sides as they pressed forward for a winner. The home side did manage to grab the winner through BEN LLOYD as he headed home from close range to see The Plough through to the next round. In the 2nd Round of the Same Competition Coxhoe Wmc Travelled to Framwellgate Moor Salutation Div 2 highflyers were given the fright of their lives against a strong Farm Salutation side. Salutation continued to make goal scoring chances but failure to finish let Coxhoe make it 2 all as the game approached the 90minute mark. The extra-time period saw Salutation lose several key players which gave Coxhoe the upper hand. The home team paid the penalty of countless missed chances losing the game 5-2, a result that doesn’t tell the full story Washington Victoria were 3-1 winners at Chester Leonards.

Giles gate started the second half better than the first and had a few chances to equalise and they did 15mins in with Craig McManus latching on to a half chance and finishing well, but soon after Houghton punished Giles gate again going 2-1 up and it wasn’t long before they scored another 2 making it 4-1 Giles gate scored another 10 mins from the end Craig McManus got his 2nd of the game. The Biddick Inn were 3-1 winners at Barley Mow Inn.

In the Only Game in the 2nd Division Waterhouses Beat Washington Lambton Village.
In the Third Divison Chester Easystreet Travelled to Houghton Chilton Lodge,
Easy Street extended their unbeaten record to five games despite a disappointing 2-2 draw against Chilton Lodge. Despite going two goals to the good through Damien Baston and Andrew Coffer, a poor second half cost Easy dear yet again.

Easy were dealt a blow before the game had even kicked off with keeper Mark Middlemass unable to make the kick-off due to being stranded in Gateshead. It was left to Paul Corlett to take his place between the sticks, a position he took up in the first game of the season against Pelton Dog Track. Not wanting a repeat of that game, Michael Dalkin named the strongest possible side from the 13 players he had available with Lewis Holmes starting on the left, Baston in midfield and Coffer partnering Andrew Jacques up front. The first half was encouraging with some slick passing and deadly through balls unleashing the pace of Coffer, who was too hot to handle for the Chilton defence. It was Baston who did it after 20 minutes, striking a low shot from the edge of the box that just managed to beat the keeper.

Coffer then made it 2-0 with a finish of real quality. A lofted through ball from Marriott was seized upon by the striker who took one touch before volleying the ball into the net for his first goal of the season and for the club.

Easy were looking comfortable and good value for their lead. But a mistake from Marriott cost them dear just before half-time. A long ball from the Chilton backline was misjudged by the Easy centre half; the Chilton winger lobbed the ball over the advancing Corlett and into the net. The second half was yet another one to forget for Easy as Chilton frustrated them with some stern defending. With the home side cranking up the pressure on the Easy defence it was a question of when not if they would equalise. It became a reality 15 minutes from time. A ball into the box wasn't dealt with by Easy and despite the number of bodies in the area a Chilton player managed to get a foot to the ball and guide it into the net. Final score 2-2.Ferryhill Saints and Visitors Shadforth Plough shared the Points in a 2-2 Draw

In the Fourth Divison Chester Cricket C  Club travelled to Washington Colliery the Cricketers were handed an early advantage when the home goalkeeper failed to control a simple back pass, allowing it past him to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.  Washington Colliery went on to take a 2-1 lead as two defensive lapses allowed soft goals to be scored, however Chester CC found an equaliser before half time when Phil Forster hit a well struck shot after coming in from the right.  Chester CC started the second half well and took the lead when a good passing move was finished by Jonathan Haggerty .  Washington Colliery again found their way back into the match however, when a penalty was awarded and successfully converted after a Chester CC defender was adjudged to have handballed in the box.  The resulting debate saw Chester CC reduced to 10 men when Phil Forster saw red for a second booking for dissent.  Washington Colliery looked to have won the game with a headed goal from a free kick following some poor marking from the Chester CC defence.  The 10 men of Chester CC kept going and managed to salvage a point when some indecision between the home defence and keeper allowed Jonathan Haggerty to steal in and score his second.

In the First Round of the Durham County Football Association Sunday Cup the League had Mixed Fortunes. Newton Aycliffe wmc entertained Sunderland Hendon Vics, It was Aycliffe who attacked from the start and after 5 minutes Hanson turned the ball in at the near post to give them the lead. Five minutes later Swinburn fired home a loose ball and at 2.0 the match seamed over. Aycliffe continued to press, but in a break away Sunderland were awarded a penalty, which they put the wrong side of the post. With the half drawing to a close Cooper made it 3.0 to Aycliffe.A greatly under strength Aycliffe team took their foot of the pedal in the second half, and two well taken goals by Sunderland, put them back in the game. However there were no further goals and both sides were left rueing missed chances in the first half. Houghton Mill All Stars crashed out at the first hurdle with a 7-2 defeat away at Darlington Albert Hill WMC. Steve Malloy and Gary Adey were the Mill's goalscorers in what was a poor All-stars performance.Quarrington Hill Wmc Travelled to Hartlepool St Francis a close game well contested between two teams trying to play good football. St Francis took an early lead when a mistake by the Q's defence allowed a cross from the right to be turned in from close range. Q Hill rallied and got an equaliser with a fine finish from Dan Beaney. The game was decided by a second half penalty which was saved brilliantly by Stephen Peters, but St Francis were quicker to the rebound. A rampant Spennymoor Salvin Arms side spoilt East Rainton FC’s debut in the county cup.  Spennymoor controlled the game from start to finish and thoroughly deserved their victory winning 7-2.  Other Results
