FA Sunday cup 1st rd. Burradon & New Fordley FC  0 - 1 Hetton Lyons Cricket Club FC, Hetton Lyons progressed in to the next round of the competition thanks to a 30 yard screamer from substitute Marc Ellison. The game itself produced very few chances for both teams and it looked like going in to extra time without both goalkeepers having to make a great save. The hosts came the closest in the first half after 30 minutes with an overhead kick that smashed against the cross bar and the Lyons eventually clearing the rebound.
Marc Ellison
Second half and Hetton should have taken the lead on 51 minutes, a cross from the right hand side from Joe Walton and unmarked Ian Watson put his header wide of the goal. Fordley came close 5 minutes later with a free kick and saw it go wide of the post. The Lyons made 3 substitutions well into the second half and the pace of the game seemed much quicker and much better movement up front and in the 86th minute Marc Ellison picked the ball up in the midfield and hit the ball from thirty yards and his shot gave the goalkeeper no chance 0-1. The last ten minutes of the game which included five minutes added on saw Fordley throw everything at the Lyons but Chris Hunter and Daniel Moore and the heart of the Lyons defense were superb and duly cleared everything. Such a move led to Sacriston's first goal as the ball was played down the right and was put into the near post for Draper who got to the ball first to bring it down under pressure from a Wear Valley defender who tried to nick the ball but only managed to clip Draper and bring him down with the referee awarding a penalty. Draper dusted himself down and clinically despatched the penalty past the Wear Valley keeper who went the right way, but could not get a hand to the ball. Wear Valley FC responded well and were finding space between the Sacriston defence and midfield. Sacriston conceded a couple of corners that they defended well and were grabbing every opportunity to press Wear Valley with some delightful two-touch passing football. Sacriston were then awarded another penalty when a ball was played in to Andrew Collinson in the 18 yard box, who was about to bring it down with his back to goal, but a Wear Valley defender clumsily pushed Collinson and the ref immediately pointed to the spot. Soon into the second half Chris Yates made his long awaited comeback from injury coming on for Robert Nixon. He made an immediate impact and was running at and getting in behind the Wear Valley defence. Social went ahead again four minutes into the second half only for Mill to respond again - a Joe Mence free kick was parried by keeper Andrew Jefferson to David Hall who shot home from eight yards out. Mill then twice struck the cross bar with a Sean Clinton header and a Philip Thompson volley. Each side had suffered a poor start to the season and both were desperate to win but it was Mill who scooped all three points when on 82 minutes a Joe Mence long throw in was headed out of defence towards brother Liam Mence who was standing twenty yards from goal - Mence hit the ball first time and watched it thunder towards goal and bulge the net in the top corner leaving keeper Jefferson stranded - surely a candidate for goal of the season ?Alistair Dodd’s and in particular Sean Clinton were outstanding in the heart of Mill's defenseman closely contest game as Sedgefield Net park travelled to Washington to play the Victoria, not many chances in the first half with Victoria taking the lead on 30mins with a well taken goal. Net Park won a penalty on 40mins with Chris Barber finishing well. Halftime 1-1.       Chester Plough Inn entertained Durham Bede Lodge in the League’s second division fixture hoping to repeat their cup win over Bede Lodge earlier in the season. The home side got the game underway and were very sloppy in the opening stages giving away possession too easily. The Plough started to take control of the game with Mark Atchison enjoying a lot of space on the left flank. The deadlock was broken in the 15th minute with a well worked goal from The Plough. Some great passing play sent Mark Atchison racing down the left flank before pulling a superb ball across the six yard area for Chris Cuthbert son to poke in from close range. The goal seemed to settle the home side as they grew in confidence and it didn’t take long for them to double their lead with another well worked goal. The goal was virtually a carbon copy of the first one as Mark Atchison beat the full back before pulling the ball back for Sam Baddams to bundle over the line for a few yards out. The Plough looked to be in cruise control mode as they were pulling the Bede Lodge players all over the players. Ben Lloyd was timing his runs to perfection but the referee kept blowing for offside which was frustrating the home side. The Plough had the perfect opportunity to really bury Bede Lodge when Lloyd played in Gary McIlduff but with the whole goal gaping he shot high and wide. In the 29th minute Bede Lodge pulled a goal back with their first shot on goal. The Ball was pumped into the Plough Penalty area and fell kindly Jonathan Kelly to blast home from close range. This gave the away side a tremendous lift as they started to enjoy more of the possession and pose a threat in the wide areas. It didn’t take long for them to grab an equaliser and it has to go down as a goalkeeping error. A long punt up field towards goal was fumbled in the air by Plough Keeper Stuart Lambert and the ball fell kindly for Kevin Kerr to knock in from a yard out. The Plough did regain the lead shortly after with another fine move. This time Gary McIlduff did well to beat his marker on the right before pulling the ball back for Ben Lloyd to smash in from close range. Concentration was needed up until half time but unfortunately there was a severe lack of it as the away side came straight back and got their equaliser. The ball was switched from left to right and with Dave Vaughan standing on his own just inside the area he hit a sweet right foot shot first time into the corner of the net beating the Plough Keeper/T 3-3. The first chance fell to Donnelly who was played in by Wood but the final effort was wide of the mark. A few minutes later Nicholson was played in and took a first time shot that flew over the bar.
Gosnell then turned provider when he played in Donnelly for another chance this time the keeper saved well. With the pressure building on Ferryhill it was only a matter of time before the Dogs took the lead, and when Nicholson
broke the offside trap of the Ferryhill defence he shoot straight at the keeper for the ball to role kindly to Harvey who finished from close range to make in one nil. Nicholson then found his finishing touch when he netted to make it two nil with a well taken touch and goal. It was three when Harvey met a corner and headed home from six yards. The Dogs conceded just before half time when Worley was penalised for handball and a penalty was awarded and dispatched well past Laws. The second half seen the dogs play there better football going uphill and against the wind. With Ferryhill using there keepers massive kick to launch the ball forward it was a test for the Dogs defensive and keeper. This said they managed superbly well limiting Ferryhills clear cut chances to just one and Laws managed to save well to keep it out. Worley then broke from left back and went on a brilliant run taking on four or five Ferryhill players but the stream ran out just as he was taken a shot which was easily saved. With Hawkins introduced for Nicholson he should have made it four when the ball was cross to him and with the keeper out of position he managed to clear the cross bar from a few yards out (how he did this is beyond us), his second chance came when Wood played him in one on one and his effort was saved well. His third chance came from another one on one that he hit wide of the mark. His last came when he was played in for a free header that he managed to guide over the bar and with this he then took the Wood Role of last week. Was it not for the Ferryhill keeper the score line would have been much higher because the Dogs created chance after chance but just could get it past him.Pelaw winning 3-1.Burnside Wmc beat Dubmire Wmc 4-2
