Bartons Hits Six in the Garden To Put Kelloe Through

By Groundhopper

In the Alan Smith Trophy sponsored By Castle Insurance Ltd, Kelloe eased through the 4th round of this Competition with an 11 nil win over a spirited Durham Garden House. Gavin Barton scored a double Hatrick (6) with John Jury (2), Kieran Megran, Adam Strong and Alex Wilson also adding to the score. Chilton Wmc lost 1-0 at Gilesgate Moor Hotel. After last weeks surprise defeat in the FA Sunday Cup at Liverpool, Hetton Lyons Cricket Club Travelled to Stockton to play Stockton Rosegale in the 2nd round of the Durham County Football Association Sunday Cup. Hetton Lyons got back to winning ways with a very work manlike performance in a strong blustery wind and a Very wet pitch..Lyons got off to a great start and were 1-0 up after 11 minutes a cross from the right from Steve Capper and Leon Ryan out jumped the Stockton defence and his header gave the goalkeeper no chance, two minutes later and they were 2-0 up, a cross from the right hand side again this time from Callum Griffiths and Warren Byrne's low header across the face of the goal and the keeper was well beaten. Stockton came back came back with a couple of half chances but the Lyons keeper Keith Finch kept them at bay. Hetton went close again in the 35th minute when a close range shot from Jason Ainsley smashed off the bar.

Second half underway and the ageless Ainsley was unlucky again with a tremendous shot that the keeper pushed on to the crossbar. In the 62 minute Stockton grabbed a lifeline with a goal from close range to make it 2-1 but it was the Lyons kept the pressure on for more goals and in the 75th minute a corner from Steve Capper and Leon Ryan headed it back in across the goal and Gavin Gogdon put it in the back of the net 3-1. Steve Capper got his goal in the 83rd minute from the penalty spot, Gavin Gogdon was brought down in the penalty area and from the penalty spot he made no mistake with the keeper going the wrong way. Full time and a good win for the Lyons. Coxhoe Wmc Run in the competition ended as they were beaten 4-1 by visitors Humbledon Plains Farm Wmc.

In the League Cup East Rainton Lost 4-1 at Sedgefield st Edmunds.

The League had Three Games in the Bishop Auckland Heart Foundation Trophy Pelton ROAB travelled to fellow Premiership Club Newton Aycliffe Wmc, the home side progressing to the Next Round winning 4-2, Ferryhill Saints Lost 7-1 at Home to Witton Park Rose and Crown, Houghton Comrades travelled to Bishop Auckland to play Hogans, the Comrades winning 5-2.

In the JD Taxis Trophy Chester Cricket Club won through to the next round with a 5-1 defeat of Burnside WMC. Burnside took a 1-0 lead after shaky start by the Cricketers, however this shook the home team into action and an equalising goal from John Sexton was followed by another from Andrew Robinson to see the Cricketers go in 2-1 up at half time. The second half was controlled by the Cricketers, who extended their lead with goals from Michael Redshaw & Jonathan Haggerty. The scoring was completed by Michael Redshaw to give the Cricketers a well deserved and comfortable victory. Sedgefield Net Park travelled to Waterhouses, In A scrappy game played on a very heavy pitch that resulted in Waterhouses reaching the semi-final of the JD Taxi's Cup. Net Park were leading 2-1 at the interval and were unlucky not to be 3-1 up with a great chance just before the whistle. Second half and Waterhouses fitness and some sloppy penalties given away by Net Park proved to be the difference between the two sides. Despite being reduced to ten men very early in the game the home side Langley Park Steelers won this game against visitors New Durham Wmc, to progress through to the next round of the Cup. A set piece from Craig Thompson opened the scoring followed by a great individual goal from Michael Nichol with Marty Merren scoring the last. Michael T Quinn was nominated MOM with the lad starting in central midfield before slotting into centre half on 17 minutes. The away keeper was kept very busy and for this reason he was given MOM from the Steelers.

In the Premier Division the only game saw Ferryhill Wmc loose 3-2 at Sacriston Cricket Club. Because of the midday Sunderland v Newcastle fixture Birtley Barley Mow and Houghton Mill All Stars kicked off their division one match at 9.00am. The early start and a very muddy pitch had an immediate effect on the game as it was half an hour before there was any meaningful action - Mill keeper Dan Pearson kicked the ball out of his hands straight up to the other end of the field, the ball bounced once before Gary Adey headed it over the outstretched arms of Birtley keeper Jon Reynolds into an empty net. Mill's lead was short lived however as five minutes later a speculative effort from twenty yards out by James Mcnaney deceived keeper Pearson for the equaliser.

Birtley went 2-1 ahead within a minute of the second half kick off - Jordan Smith waltzed through the Mill's defence before his shot at goal was parried by Pearson directly into the path of Sean Gilley who had an easy tap in to score. On the hour mark a mix up in the Mill's defence presented Jack Honour with a third goal for Birtley. With ten minutes remaining Mill reduced the deficit to 3-2 when a David Jane cross was knocked home by James Adamson. Birtley were unlucky not to have a fourth goal when Honour struck the upright in the dying moments of the game.

Lambton Village in the Second Division were 4.2 winners at West Rainton and Lumley Fc crashed to a 6-0 defeat at Washington Victoria

Pelaw Grange Dogs in the Third Division entertained Bishop Middle ham Cross Keys, This was the first game for over 7 weeks for the Dogs, and the pitch was very heavy. Although the players were fresh on both sides and eager to play the ground tended to hold them back. Bishop Middleham had two efforts in the first 15 minutes but neither side really threatened the goal before half time. After the interval Pelaw let Bishop Middleham in when the player went round two of Pelaws to score a well taken goal on around 55 minutes. This seemed to inspire the Pelaw players who were working hard but Scott Patterson was replaced by Kenny Brown after twisting his knee as he got up with the attack. Gary Ryan of Pelaw Grange Dogs laid on an excellent ball for Dave Cater to score his first of the year by chipping the ball over an advancing Steve Heslop for Bishop Middleton. Then around 10 minutes later persisentence by Chris Hawkins saw his pass put through David Carter again to make it 2-1 to Pelaw Grange Dogs FC. This was the final result. Referee Keith Hunter had a good game on a difficult pitch.Shadforth Plough Inn lost 3-2 at Durham Bede Lodge Social, Chester Easy Street were 5-3 winners at Pittington Fc.

In the Fourth Division Quarrington Hill Wmc won 4-2 at Burnmoor Jkr, Langley Park Rams Head lost 5-1 at Ferryhill Post Boy and New Brancepeth Wmc were 3-1 winners over visitors Chester Leonards in a game Leonards could of went top of the Division but didnt get the result...Their only Goal of the game on 20 Mins A superb free-kick by Paul Chilly Chilton, guided home with the right foot from outside the area past the Brancepeth Keeper.

FA Sunday Cup

In the Only Game in the League Hetton Lyons Cricket Club travelled to Liverpool to play Paddock in the FA Sunday Cup.

FA Sunday Cup 3rd rd

Paddock FC 3 - 2 Hetton Lyons Cricket Club

FA Sunday Cup holders Hetton Lyons were knockout of the competition and its a game they will quickly want to put behind them. Although they were leading by 2-0 they never seemed to be in control of the game and created very few chances. Two goals from set pieces (15min and 41st min) and Leon Ryan got his head on both of them to put the Lyons in front but just on the stroke of half time Paddock pulled a dubious goal back, the Lyons defender clearing his line but the linesman gave the goal by saying the ball was over the goal line half time 2-1.
In the second half Paddock put the pressure on the Lyons and two goals in seven minutes (60 & 67) saw them take the lead, Hetton tried to push forward for the equaliser but created very little and it was the Liverpool side that went through to the next round. Bad day at the office
